Network-accessible with low complexity; PR:L because global:member authentication is required; S:U as impact is confined to the n8n application process without scope change.

n8n before 2.33.4 and 2.34.x before 2.34.1 contain a remote code execution vulnerability in the @n8n/workflow-sdk node-schema loader used for MCP node-schema loading. The loader derives a node's schema module path directly from the attacker-supplied node type string without validating path-traversal sequences. An authenticated user with global:member privileges can reference malicious files via path traversal, causing code execution in the n8n main process.
AnalysisAI
Remote code execution in n8n workflow automation platform (versions before 2.33.4 and 2.34.x before 2.34.1) arises from a path traversal flaw in the @n8n/workflow-sdk MCP node-schema loader. An authenticated user holding global:member privileges can supply a crafted node type string containing path-traversal sequences, causing the loader to resolve and execute an arbitrary file on the server filesystem as a Node.js module within the n8n main process. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an active authenticated session with global:member privileges on the target n8n instance - the lowest non-anonymous membership role. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) accurately characterizes the threat: network-reachable, low complexity, requiring only a standard authenticated membership role, with full confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on the n8n process. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker who holds a global:member account on a self-hosted n8n instance constructs a workflow node with a crafted node type string (e.g., '../../../../tmp/payload') referencing a JavaScript file previously written to the server via another vector, such as a file upload feature or pre-existing filesystem write access. When n8n's MCP node-schema loader processes the workflow, it resolves the traversal path outside the schema base directory and loads the attacker's file as a Node.js module, executing arbitrary code with the privileges of the n8n server process. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade n8n to version 2.33.4 (stable branch) or 2.34.1 (2.34.x branch), which are the confirmed fixed releases per the vendor advisory at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-6h4x-896x-fw5m. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
