n8n before 1.123.69, 2.x before 2.33.4, and 2.34.x before 2.34.1 contain an expression injection vulnerability in resource-locator field link preview rendering. The editor spliced the field's stored value directly into the node type's URL template without checking for expression syntax. An authenticated member can store a malicious value so that when another user opens the affected node in the editor, the injected expression is evaluated as JavaScript in the victim's authenticated session (cross-user script execution).
AnalysisAI
Expression injection in n8n's workflow editor allows an authenticated member to store a malicious payload in a resource-locator field that executes as JavaScript in any other user's browser session when they open the affected node. The root cause is that the editor splices the field's stored value directly into the node type's URL template without sanitizing expression syntax, enabling cross-user script execution within authenticated sessions. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to hold at minimum a 'member' role in the target n8n instance with write access to create or edit nodes that contain resource-locator fields. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.4 is well-supported by the vulnerability's mechanics: high confidentiality and integrity impact on the vulnerable system (VC:H/VI:H) reflects the ability to read and act within the victim's authenticated n8n session, including potentially accessing API credentials, external service tokens, and workflow data stored in n8n. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker with a low-privilege member account in a shared n8n workspace creates or edits a workflow node containing a resource-locator field, storing a value with embedded n8n expression syntax that exfiltrates the opener's session token or triggers an API call using the victim's credentials. When a higher-privileged user (such as an owner or admin) opens that workflow node in the n8n editor, the injected expression executes in their authenticated browser session, potentially exposing their API keys, external service credentials, or allowing workflow manipulation under their identity. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade n8n to 1.123.69 or later on the 1.x branch, 2.33.4 or later on the 2.x branch, or 2.34.1 or later on the 2.34.x branch. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
