DescriptionCVE.org

IBM Power Firmware FW1120.00, FW1110.00 through FW1110.30, FW1060.00 through FW1060.80, FW950.00 through FW950.H2, OP940.00 through OP940.a1, and OP940.00 - OP940.81 is affected by a vulnerability in the service processor mailbox interface. An attacker with authenticated service-level access to the BMC/FSP can exploit this vulnerability, allowing arbitrary code to be executed in the host firmware runtime, giving full control over the managed system, resulting in a confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact to the managed system.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary code execution in IBM Power Firmware across multiple firmware branches (FW1120.00, FW1110.x, FW1060.x, FW950.x, OP940.x) stems from a CWE-787 out-of-bounds write in the service processor mailbox interface. An authenticated attacker with service-level access to the BMC/FSP can exploit this buffer overflow to cross the trust boundary from the management processor into the host firmware runtime, gaining full control over the managed Power system. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires authenticated service-level access to the IBM BMC/FSP (Flexible Service Processor) - the CVSS vector AV:L/PR:H confirms this is a local or adjacent-network interface requiring high-privilege credentials. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 8.2 score with S:C accurately reflects the severity of crossing from the BMC management layer into the host firmware runtime - a trust boundary violation with maximum C/I/A impact on the managed system. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Apply the vendor-released patch available per IBM advisory at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7283236. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all IBM Power systems currently running affected firmware versions and document which administrators have service processor access to each system. …
