A buffer overflow in the underlying operating system of HPE Aruba Networking EdgeConnect SD-WAN Gateways lets an unauthenticated attacker on an adjacent network segment execute arbitrary code as a privileged OS user, resulting in full compromise of the appliance. Affected branches span the 9.4.x, 9.5.x, 9.6.x and 9.7.0.0 release trains (up to 9.4.8.2, 9.5.8.1, 9.6.3.1 and 9.7.0.0 respectively). The vendor describes exploitation as conditional on preconditions outside the attacker's control, and no public exploit code, EPSS score or CISA KEV entry was present in the supplied intelligence at time of analysis.

DescriptionCVE.org
Buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in the underlying operating system of EdgeConnect SD-WAN Gateways that could allow an unauthenticated adjacent attacker to execute arbitrary code if certain preconditions outside of the attacker's control are met. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code as a privileged user on the underlying operating system leading to complete system compromise.

Attack Technique
A buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a memory buffer than it was allocated to hold, causing the excess data to spill into adjacent memory regions.
A stack-based buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a buffer located on the stack than it was allocated to hold.
