Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the attacker to first capture a valid WS-Security UsernameToken (PasswordDigest, nonce, created) from ONVIF traffic - i.e. a network position that can observe camera-to-client SOAP requests, such as a shared LAN segment, misconfigured switch, or man-in-the-middle. The enabling defect is that GV-LPC2211 V1.13 enforces neither nonce-reuse rejection nor timestamp freshness on UsernameTokens. Limiting factors: the attack is confined to whatever the ONVIF service exposes, needs the ONVIF interface reachable to the attacker, and depends on at least one legitimate authenticated ONVIF exchange occurring (or having occurred) for a token to capture; it does not require knowing or cracking the password.

Impact

The published CVSS 9.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/C:H/I:H/A:H) frames this as a trivially remote, unauthenticated full compromise, but that overstates ease of exploitation: an attacker must first obtain a legitimate PasswordDigest token, which in practice requires observing ONVIF traffic (passive sniffing on a shared/insecure segment or an active man-in-the-middle), so real-world attack complexity is closer to High than Low. Once a token is captured, however, replay does yield unauthenticated ONVIF control, so the high impact rating is credible. There is no EPSS figure, no POC, and no KEV entry provided, so exploitation appears theoretical/targeted rather than commodity at this time. Given that these are network-edge surveillance/LPR devices frequently reachable on flat operational networks, any operator running V1.13 should treat replayable camera authentication as a meaningful exposure and prioritize network isolation while a fix is pending.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker with a foothold on the same network segment as the camera (or in a man-in-the-middle position) passively captures an ONVIF UsernameToken sent by the legitimate NVR. They then replay the captured PasswordDigest against the camera's ONVIF endpoint to authenticate their own requests, letting them pull live/recorded video, alter camera or LPR settings, or disrupt the feed. No plaintext password is ever needed and the replayed token remains valid indefinitely.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 10, 2026

Authentication replay in GeoVision GV-LPC2211 license-plate-recognition cameras (firmware V1.13, marketed as GV-LPCLPC2011/2211) lets an attacker who captures a single WS-Security UsernameToken re-submit its PasswordDigest to authenticate arbitrary ONVIF operations. Because the device does not track UsernameToken nonces or enforce timestamp freshness, a passively observed token grants ongoing control of the camera's ONVIF interface without ever recovering the plaintext credential. No public exploit identified at time of analysis and the flaw is not listed in CISA KEV.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch version is identified at time of analysis; monitor the GeoVision security advisory page (https://www.geovision.com.tw/cyber_security.php) for updated firmware and apply it once published. As compensating controls, place the camera on an isolated management VLAN and restrict its ONVIF/SOAP port to a small allowlist of NVR/VMS hosts so captured tokens cannot be replayed from arbitrary sources (trade-off: any legitimately reachable integration host remains a replay vantage point); wrap ONVIF traffic in TLS or an IPsec/VPN tunnel to prevent the token capture that this attack depends on (trade-off: requires client/VMS TLS support and adds configuration overhead); and disable ONVIF entirely if the deployment does not need it. Rotate device credentials after remediation, noting that credential rotation alone does NOT fix the replay flaw because a freshly captured token is equally replayable.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerability lives in the camera's ONVIF/SOAP web-service stack, which uses the WS-Security UsernameToken profile. Under that profile the client sends a PasswordDigest = Base64(SHA1(nonce + created + password)) together with the nonce and a created timestamp; a compliant server MUST reject reused nonces and stale timestamps to prevent replay. GV-LPC2211 V1.13 (CPE cpe:2.3:a:geovision_inc.:gv-lpclpc2011/2211:*) omits both checks, which is the classic CWE-294 (Authentication Bypass by Capture-Replay) failure mode: the digest is verified for correctness but the freshness guarantees that make the digest single-use are never applied, so the token becomes a bearer credential valid indefinitely.

DescriptionCVE.org

GeoVision GV-LPC2211 V1.13 fails to enforce WS-Security UsernameToken freshness or nonce reuse protection, allowing a captured PasswordDigest token to be replayed for subsequent ONVIF operations.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

GeoVision GV-LPC2211 license-plate-recognition cameras (firmware V1.13) contain a critical authentication replay vulnerability allowing attackers who passively capture a single authentication token to gain persistent, unauthorized control over camera operations-posing immediate risk to surveillance infrastructure integrity with no vendor patch available. Organizations relying on these cameras for traffic enforcement, parking, or border monitoring face potential loss of monitoring capability and manipulation of surveillance data.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

Implement network segmentation (ONVIF on isolated VLAN with firewall whitelisting of administrative IPs only); disable ONVIF protocol if operationally feasible; monitor ONVIF traffic for authentication patterns and flag repeated token submissions from different sources; place an API gateway or firewall appliance in front of the camera fleet to rate-limit authentication attempts and log token usage patterns; consider physical isolation of cameras from production networks pending replacement. No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis.
