Exploitation Conditions

Requires: (1) A completed authenticated Bedrock session - the attacker must connect to the server and pass normal login/authentication (PR:L). (2) At least one resource pack configured on the server - if the server has no resource packs, the STATUS_SEND_PACKS phase is not reached. (3) A custom non-standard Bedrock client capable of sending duplicate UUIDs in the packIds array - official Mojang clients never produce this packet. Limiting factors: server whitelisting prevents unauthenticated/unknown players from reaching the vulnerable code path; the server must be reachable on its Bedrock network port.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VA:H) scores 7.1, accurately reflecting that authentication is required (PR:L - the attacker must complete the Bedrock session handshake) but complexity is low thereafter. The amplification characteristic is the key risk multiplier: a single packet with thousands of duplicate UUIDs can trigger disproportionate server-side memory allocation before the process crashes. No EPSS data was provided and the vulnerability is not in CISA KEV, but publicly available exploit details in the GHSA advisory mean the barrier to exploitation is low for anyone operating a custom Bedrock client. The practical risk is highest for public PocketMine-MP servers accessible to untrusted players; private servers with whitelisted player lists face significantly reduced exposure.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker runs a custom Minecraft Bedrock client, connects to a public PocketMine-MP server, and completes the normal authentication handshake. After authentication, the attacker sends a single crafted ResourcePackClientResponsePacket with STATUS_SEND_PACKS containing several thousand copies of a valid resource pack UUID. The server faithfully processes each duplicate, allocating memory and preparing ResourcePackDataInfoPacket transmissions until the PHP process exhausts available RAM and terminates. GHSA-fqqv-56h5-f57g contains sufficient technical detail to implement this attack.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 09, 2026

Memory exhaustion denial of service in PocketMine-MP before 5.32.1 allows any authenticated Bedrock client to crash the server by sending a single crafted ResourcePackClientResponsePacket. The server iterates the client-supplied packIds array without deduplicating UUIDs, so a custom client supplying hundreds of copies of a valid pack UUID causes the server to transmit ResourcePackDataInfoPacket repeatedly, rapidly exhausting PHP process memory. No public KEV listing, but exploit details are publicly available via GHSA-fqqv-56h5-f57g.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to PocketMine-MP 5.32.1, which resolves the issue via commits c417ecd30d20520227b15e09eda87db492ab0a6a and e375437439df51f7862b6b98318394643fcd6724. The fix deduplicates the packIds array before processing and disconnects clients that send an excessive number of duplicates. For operators who cannot patch immediately, enabling a server whitelist (restricting connections to trusted players) eliminates the untrusted-client attack surface entirely but blocks new player onboarding. Network-layer rate limiting on the Bedrock port (default UDP 19132) can reduce exposure but will not prevent a single crafted packet from triggering the vulnerability. No configuration toggle exists to disable STATUS_SEND_PACKS processing independently of resource packs.

Technical ContextAI · show details

PocketMine-MP (CPE cpe:2.3:a:pmmp:pocketmine-mp:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is a PHP-based Minecraft Bedrock Edition server. During the resource-pack handshake, the client sends a ResourcePackClientResponsePacket with STATUS_SEND_PACKS containing a packIds array of UUIDs it requests. The server iterates this array and for each entry emits a ResourcePackDataInfoPacket. CWE-20 (Improper Input Validation) applies because the server unconditionally trusts the client-supplied array without calling array_unique() or tracking already-sent packs. Official Mojang clients never send duplicate UUIDs, so the assumption of well-behaved clients was never tested against a custom non-standard client.

DescriptionCVE.org

PocketMine-MP before 5.32.1 fails to validate uniqueness of pack UUIDs in ResourcePackClientResponsePacket STATUS_SEND_PACKS handling, allowing authenticated clients to trigger duplicate pack transmissions. Attackers can send multiple copies of valid pack UUIDs in a single packet to exhaust server memory and cause denial of service.

Why It Matters

PocketMine-MP (Minecraft Bedrock server software) before version 5.32.1 contains a memory exhaustion denial-of-service vulnerability exploitable by publicly available exploit code with just player-level authentication. A single malicious packet crashes the entire server and halts all player access. Organizations running Minecraft services must patch immediately to restore service availability.
