DescriptionCVE.org

MOOS core-moos through 10.4.0 contains a buffer over-read vulnerability in CMOOSCommPkt where a four-byte packet triggers out-of-bounds memory access during deserialization. Attackers can open a TCP connection to the MOOSDB port and send a crafted short packet to read memory before authentication.

AnalysisAI

Unauthenticated buffer over-read in MOOS core-moos through 10.4.0 allows any attacker with TCP access to the MOOSDB port to crash the server or leak process memory by sending a crafted 4-byte packet. The CMOOSCommPkt deserialization path fails to validate that the declared packet length meets the minimum header size before calling Serialize(), causing it to read the message-count field from memory beyond the end of the received data. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation No special configuration is required beyond MOOSDB being reachable over TCP - exploitation occurs before authentication. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:H) accurately captures the core risk: unauthenticated, low-complexity, network-reachable, with high availability impact and limited confidentiality exposure. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Apply the upstream fix by pulling commit d30c14585753f9ae39749d9628ed15c8383f0568 from https://github.com/themoos/core-moos (PR #75) and rebuilding core-moos. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all systems running MOOS core-moos versions up to 10.4.0 and identify which expose the MOOSDB port to untrusted networks. …
