DescriptionCVE.org

MOOS-IvP pMarineViewer through 24.8.1 fails to limit the number of tracked node identities from NODE_REPORT messages, allowing attackers to exhaust memory by supplying unbounded distinct node names. Attackers can publish crafted NODE_REPORT data to cause memory exhaustion and stall the operator display without authentication.

AnalysisAI

Unbounded memory consumption in MOOS-IvP pMarineViewer through version 24.8.1 allows unauthenticated network attackers to exhaust the operator display process by flooding it with NODE_REPORT messages carrying arbitrary distinct node names. The ContactLedger class allocates a new tracking entry for every unique vessel name it encounters without enforcing any cap, making the ledger - and everything that iterates it - grow without limit. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires network-level access to the MOOS publish-subscribe database (MOOSDB), which acts as the message broker. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VA:H) accurately characterises the availability-only impact: any network peer on the MOOS communication bus can trigger the condition without credentials. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary fix is to apply the upstream patch from GitHub PR #134 (commit 4d8d0693d3f8bf8907dc0aed04ea488d85af9f22), which caps ContactLedger at 200 distinct contacts by default and allows operators to call setMaxContacts() to tune the limit for their mission profile. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, identify and inventory all systems running pMarineViewer through version 24.8.1, prioritizing those supporting active maritime operations. …
