DescriptionCVE.org

MOOS-IvP versions through 24.8.1 contain a quadratic processing vulnerability in uFldNodeComms where each new node identity creates a ledger entry and triggers all-pairs distribution work. Attackers can supply unbounded distinct node names in reports to drive the shoreside broker into quadratic processing, delaying or preventing distribution of legitimate node reports.

AnalysisAI

Quadratic algorithmic complexity in MOOS-IvP's uFldNodeComms shoreside broker (versions through 24.8.1) allows unauthenticated remote attackers to progressively degrade and halt legitimate autonomous vehicle node-report distribution by injecting NODE_REPORT messages with an unbounded stream of distinct fake node names. Each new name triggers an all-pairs distribution walk over the entire ledger (O(n²) work per pass), causing the shoreside broker to consume exponentially increasing CPU as attacker-controlled name diversity grows. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The uFldNodeComms (FldNodeComms) application must be actively running as the shoreside broker in a MOOS-IvP deployment. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H accurately reflects the attack profile: network-reachable, no complexity barrier, no credentials required, pure availability impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Apply the upstream fix available via GitHub PR #131 (https://github.com/moos-ivp/moos-ivp/pull/131) and the corresponding commit 8e30008d4eb68d83797187bd46e929e6cb06b195. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, identify all systems running MOOS-IvP versions 24.8.1 or earlier and confirm whether shoreside brokers are exposed to untrusted networks. …
