DescriptionCVE.org

MOOS-IvP uFldShoreBroker through 24.8.1 fails to limit the number of claimed communities stored in parallel vectors within ShoreBroker::handleMailNodePing(). A single publisher can supply unbounded distinct community names to grow retained state and per-pass work without limit, causing memory exhaustion and performance degradation.

AnalysisAI

Unbounded resource allocation in MOOS-IvP uFldShoreBroker through 24.8.1 allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to exhaust the shore broker process's memory and degrade per-iteration CPU performance by sending NODE_BROKER_PING messages with an unlimited number of distinct community names. Each unique community name causes entries to be appended across six parallel in-memory vectors with no eviction policy and no enrollment ceiling, creating unbounded O(n) per-pass overhead. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation No special conditions are required - any default deployment of uFldShoreBroker through 24.8.1 that exposes the MOOS broker port to untrusted senders is vulnerable. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VA:H) accurately captures the threat: network-reachable, zero-complexity, unauthenticated DoS with no confidentiality or integrity consequence. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upstream fix is available via GitHub PR #133 and commit 2cbaed2227db31f50d5542cafe08445596800801 (https://github.com/moos-ivp/moos-ivp/pull/133); operators should rebuild uFldShoreBroker from the patched commit - a vendor-tagged release version containing the fix has not been independently confirmed. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, conduct inventory of all systems running MOOS-IvP uFldShoreBroker and document versions to identify those at version 24.8.1 or earlier. …
