DescriptionCVE.org

Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway before version 9.5.0 is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution. Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway allowed an authenticated administrator to import configuration whose contents were not sufficiently validated before being processed. A crafted submission could potentially allow arbitrary commands to be executed on the affected gateway.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary command execution on Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway is possible in all versions before 9.5.0: an authenticated administrator can import a crafted configuration file whose contents are insufficiently validated, allowing commands to run on the appliance with the privileges of the gateway service (CVSS 3.1 base 7.2, AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H). Because the vector requires PR:H, this is not a remote unauthenticated attack - it is realistically an insider, malicious-admin, or post-credential-compromise escalation from administrative access to full code execution on the gateway. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated administrator account on the Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway (PR:H) and access to the configuration-import feature; the attacker submits a crafted configuration whose contents are processed without sufficient validation. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine but access-gated concern. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway to version 9.5.0 or later, per the advisory at https://github.com/kiteworks/security-advisories/security/advisories/GHSA-465g-wpvm-8qmr and the CISA CSAF entry va-26-274-01. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway instances and confirm which are below version 9.5.0; restrict configuration-import privileges to essential administrators, review recent admin activity and configuration imports for anomalies, and enforce least privilege. …
