Remote unauthenticated message trigger (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N); SSRF read-back gives C:H and gateway disruption gives A:H, with no integrity/write primitive so I:N and S:U.

Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway before version 9.5.0 is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF). A server-side request forgery (SSRF) weakness in Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to induce the gateway to issue crafted requests to internal or otherwise unintended network destinations. The requests are triggered while the gateway retrieves a certificate revocation list in an inbound message. Depending on the services reachable from the gateway, this could disclose sensitive internal information or disrupt gateway operation.
AnalysisAI
Server-side request forgery in Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway before 9.5.0 allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H, 9.1) to make the gateway fetch attacker-chosen URLs by embedding a crafted certificate revocation list reference in an inbound message. Successful exploitation yields disclosure of information reachable from the gateway's network position or disruption of gateway availability, but no write access or code execution (I:N), so practical severity is bounded by what internal or cloud-metadata endpoints the appliance can actually reach - landing it in the medium operational-priority band despite the critical base score. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | No authentication and no user interaction are required: a remote attacker triggers the SSRF by sending an inbound message that induces the gateway to retrieve a certificate revocation list (CRL) referenced by attacker-influenced certificate material. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuinely notable issue but sits in the MEDIUM operational-priority band despite its 9.1 'Critical' CVSS. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway 9.5.0 or later, which is the first version not affected per the advisory at https://github.com/kiteworks/security-advisories/security/advisories/GHSA-p435-6c3j-4gh5; treat this as the only complete fix because the flaw is in the gateway's own outbound request logic. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, identify all instances of Kiteworks Email Protection Gateway running versions before 9.5.0 and apply the vendor-released patch (9.5.0 or later); if immediate patching is not possible, restrict the gateway's outbound network access to only necessary destinations. …
