Remote and unauthenticated (attacker uses own account), but requires seeding a live flow and driving a victim to resume it (AC:H, UI:R); login-CSRF impact is limited (C:L/I:L, no availability).

2DescriptionCVE.org
Python Social Auth is a social authentication/registration mechanism. Prior to version 5.0.0, the partial-pipeline resume mechanism accepted partial_token as a bearer credential without binding it to the browser session that created it. Applications using resumable partial pipeline steps could allow an attacker to start an authentication flow, obtain a valid partial token and verification data, and cause a victim's browser to resume that attacker-controlled flow. This could authenticate the victim's browser as the attacker's account. The issue affects applications using partial pipeline steps such as mail_validation or custom steps decorated with @partial. The issue has been fixed in version 5.0.0 by binding partial pipeline resumes to the originating browser session.
AnalysisAI
Login CSRF through partial-pipeline session fixation in the social-core library of Python Social Auth before 5.0.0 allows an unauthenticated remote attacker (PR:N) to seed an authentication flow, harvest the resulting partial_token and verification data, and then induce a victim's browser to resume that attacker-controlled flow so the victim ends up authenticated as the attacker's account. Only applications that use resumable partial pipeline steps - such as the built-in mail_validation step or custom steps decorated with @partial - are exposed; success additionally requires victim interaction (UI:R) and reliable delivery of the attacker's token into the victim's browser, which is why the high attack complexity keeps the CVSS 3.1 base score at 4.2. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The target application must use resumable partial pipeline steps - specifically steps such as `mail_validation` or custom steps decorated with `@partial` in social-core prior to 5.0.0; applications without resumable partial-pipeline steps are not affected. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but low-priority weakness. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade social-core to version 5.0.0, which binds partial pipeline resumes to the originating browser session and eliminates the session-fixation condition; pin the dependency to social-core>=5.0.0 and redeploy, then verify with pip that no transitive constraint is holding the library below 5.0.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
