3DescriptionCVE.org
An issue in MongoDB Server's JavaScript scripting engine could allow an authenticated user with write privileges to cause code they control to be executed within the query scope of other users, through a specially crafted stored value processed during an internal maintenance cycle. This could result in corruption of query results affecting other users and denial of service targeted at their operations on the same database. Impact is limited to the scripting engine's execution sandbox, which does not provide access to database, filesystem, or network resources.
AnalysisAI
MongoDB Server's JavaScript scripting engine allows an authenticated user with write privileges to inject code into the query execution scope of other database users via a specially crafted stored value processed during an internal maintenance cycle. Affected versions span the 7.0, 8.0, and 8.3 release lines, with vendor-confirmed patches available. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an authenticated MongoDB database account with write privileges on at least one collection within the targeted MongoDB instance running a vulnerable version (7.0 before 7.0.40, 8.0 before 8.0.29, or 8.3.0 before 8.3.8). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 5.3 (Medium) reflects network accessibility with low attack complexity (AV:N/AC:L) but a mandatory authentication prerequisite with write privileges (PR:L), which materially reduces the attacker pool. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An authenticated database user with write privileges crafts a malicious JavaScript payload and stores it as a document field value in a collection they control. MongoDB's internal maintenance cycle subsequently processes this stored value through the JavaScript scripting engine in a context shared with other active users, causing the attacker's code to execute within victims' query scopes. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade to MongoDB Server 7.0.40, 8.0.29, or 8.3.8 as applicable to your release line; these versions are confirmed by vendor data as containing the fix. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
