Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Jul 23, 2026
Heap out-of-bounds write in FFmpeg's TDSC video decoder (versions 2.7 through 8.1.2) lets a remote attacker corrupt heap memory and potentially achieve code execution when a victim opens or transcodes a crafted AVI file whose frame dimensions change across TDSF frames. The flaw carries a CVSS 4.0 base score of 8.5 with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact, and requires the target to process the malicious file (UI:P). No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and it is not listed in CISA KEV; it was reported by VulnCheck.

DescriptionCVE.org
FFmpeg versions 2.7 through 8.1.2 contain an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the TDSC video decoder that allows remote attackers to cause heap corruption by supplying a crafted AVI file that changes frame dimensions across TDSF frames. The tdsc_parse_tdsf() function fails to unreference the existing reference frame before calling av_frame_get_buffer(), causing tdsc_blit() and tdsc_yuv2rgb() to write attacker-controlled pixel data beyond the end of the undersized reference frame buffer, resulting in a process crash and potential code execution.
Executive ViewAI
FFmpeg TDSC decoder vulnerability (CVE-2026-65703) affects versions 2.7-8.1.2 and could enable remote code execution when processing malicious video files. Organizations relying on FFmpeg for video transcoding or media processing face potential compromise of system confidentiality, integrity, and availability, requiring immediate patching.
Within 24 hours, identify all systems running FFmpeg versions 2.7 through 8.1.2, particularly those handling untrusted video files or performing automated transcoding. Within 7 days, apply the vendor-released patch to all affected FFmpeg installations and validate deployment in staging environments before production rollout. Within 30 days, audit video processing workflows to confirm patch application across all systems and review logs from the past 90 days for any suspicious media processing activity that may indicate prior exploitation attempts.
Apply vendor patch.

Attack Technique
A buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a memory buffer than it was allocated to hold, causing the excess data to spill into adjacent memory regions.
Memory corruption occurs when a program writes data beyond the boundaries of allocated memory regions or accesses memory in unintended ways, violating the integrity of the process's address space.
Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
