DescriptionNVD

Memory safety bugs present in Firefox 152.0.3. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability was fixed in Firefox 152.0.4.

AnalysisAI

Memory-corruption weaknesses in Mozilla Firefox 152.0.3 could allow remote attackers to potentially execute arbitrary code within the browser process. Mozilla graded the collected memory-safety bugs as critical (MFSA2026-62) and states some showed evidence of memory corruption that, with sufficient effort, could be exploited for code execution; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and EPSS exploitation probability is low (0.14%, 4th percentile). The issue is resolved in Firefox 152.0.4.

Technical ContextAI

This advisory covers a batch of memory-safety defects in the Firefox web browser engine (Gecko), reported and triaged internally by Mozilla across multiple Bugzilla entries (2043241, 2045514, 2045576, 2045623, 2045765, 2049409, 2049840, plus 2046814). The root cause is classified as CWE-787 (Out-of-bounds Write), the same weakness class behind classic buffer overflows and heap corruption. In a browser context these bugs are typically reachable by content parsing/JavaScript/layout paths processing attacker-controlled web data, and successful memory corruption can undermine the process's memory integrity. The affected component per CPE is cpe:2.3:a:mozilla:firefox, i.e. the desktop Firefox application.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: Firefox 152.0.4 - upgrade all Firefox installations to 152.0.4 or later, which is the primary and complete fix; consult Mozilla advisory MFSA2026-62 (https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2026-62/) for details. Because this is a memory-safety bug reachable through rendered web content, effective interim compensating controls include enabling/using stricter content handling (e.g. disabling or restricting JavaScript via NoScript or enterprise policy on high-risk endpoints, at the cost of breaking many sites), and browsing untrusted sites in a sandboxed or disposable environment; note these reduce but do not eliminate exposure and degrade usability. No credential or configuration change substitutes for the update, so prioritize deploying 152.0.4 through your normal browser update or enterprise policy channel.
