| Exploitation Conditions | Requires the openGauss deployment to run HADR or standby/switchover (SW) streaming replication AND to have a pg_hba.conf replication entry that check_hba_replication() matches permissively (notably a 'trust' method) while being reachable from a non-internal network. The attacker must be able to open a replication-protocol connection to the database from outside the internal node network. Limiting factors: deployments without HADR/SW replication senders, or whose replication pg_hba rules do not permit remote/trust access, are not exploitable; the issue is fully remediated in 7.0.0-LTS, which forces external replication connections back through check_hba() and its remote-trust prohibition. No user interaction is required. |
| Impact | Overall this is a medium-severity, config-dependent access-control bypass (CWE-288) rather than a drop-everything priority. The vendor CVSS of 6.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) signals a network-reachable issue, but several signals conflict and should be weighed. First, the vector lists PR:H (privileges required), yet the root cause is an authentication BYPASS - external HADR/SW replication connections skip is_node_internal_connection() and the remote-trust prohibition in check_hba(), so where a replication trust rule exists the attacker needs NO valid credentials; PR:H therefore understates the auth-bypass nature and I independently assess PR:N. Second, the vector claims I:H, but the description and the 'Information Disclosure' tag both indicate the outcome is READING backup and WAL/log data over the replication protocol - a confidentiality impact, not integrity; I:H appears overstated. Third, no EPSS score, SSVC decision, KEV listing, or POC was provided in the input: there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The practical risk is bounded by configuration - it only bites deployments that run HADR/SW streaming replication AND expose a replication pg_hba rule permissive enough (notably trust) to non-internal networks. Verify the PR and integrity metrics with openGauss, since the provided vector conflicts with the description. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker positioned on a non-internal network reachable to the openGauss database port opens a HADR/SW streaming-replication connection. Because the replication sender is not required to pass is_node_internal_connection(), authentication is handled by the weaker check_hba_replication() path, which omits the remote-trust prohibition, so where replication trust is configured the attacker completes authentication without credentials and streams backup and WAL/log data. No public exploit code was provided in the input. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026
Access-control bypass in openGauss Server's HADR/SW streaming-replication authentication lets remote, unauthenticated attackers satisfy HBA checks and read backup and log data over the replication protocol. The flaw affects 3.0.x, 3.1.x, 5.0.x, 5.1.0, 6.0.x and 7.0.0-RC1 through RC3, but is only reachable when a permissive replication pg_hba.conf entry (notably 'trust') matches connections originating outside the internal node network, so real-world exposure is configuration-dependent and the assessed base score is 6.5 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N - confidentiality only). It is fixed in 7.0.0-LTS; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 7.0.0-LTS, which forces HADR/SW replication senders through is_node_internal_connection() and routes external replication connections back to check_hba(), restoring the remote-'trust' prohibition; upgrade to that release and apply the upstream change referenced at https://gitcode.com/opengauss/openGauss-server/pull/9757. If upgrading immediately is not possible, remove 'trust' (and any overly broad wildcard) from replication entries in pg_hba.conf and restrict those entries to the internal node-network CIDRs, reloading configuration with pg_ctl reload; the trade-off is that mis-scoped rules will break streaming replication until the peer addresses are corrected, so validate standby connectivity first. As defence in depth, enforce scram-sha-256 or certificate authentication for replication users, and filter the database port (default 5432) so only replication peer nodes can reach it - noting that this firewall restriction will block failover if DR nodes legitimately live in a different network segment. Deployments that do not use HADR/SW streaming replication are not exposed and can deprioritise the change.

openGauss derives its host-based authentication (HBA) subsystem from PostgreSQL, implemented in src/common/backend/libpq/hba.cpp. When a client requests a replication connection, hba_getauthmethod() selects a matching rule; for HADR (high-availability disaster recovery) and SW (switchover) replication senders the code path calls check_hba_replication() directly instead of first gating on is_node_internal_connection() and then delegating to the full check_hba() routine. check_hba_replication() only performs a weak match against the 'replication' keyword and omits the complete policy evaluation performed by check_hba(), including the prohibition on remote hosts authenticating via 'trust'. This is CWE-288 (Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path or Channel): a second, less-strict authentication channel exists alongside the normal one, so a connection from a non-internal network that matches a permissive replication HBA entry is accepted and can then use the replication protocol to pull backup and log data. The CPE string cpe:2.3:a:opengauss-server:opengauss-server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* reflects a wildcard across versions in the advisory metadata, while the vendor text enumerates the confirmed affected ranges 3.0.0 through 7.0.0-RC3. The fix requires HADR/SW replication senders to pass is_node_internal_connection(), thereby routing external replication connections through check_hba() and triggering the remote-trust prohibition.

Auth bypass grants access without credentials when a replication trust rule exists (PR:N); depends on a specific non-default HADR/SW + pg_hba configuration (AC:H); exposes backup/log data read-only (C:H, I:N, A:N).

DescriptionCVE.org
在 openGauss-server 的 src/common/backend/libpq/hba.cpp 中,复制连接认证存在访问控制绕过。hba_getauthmethod() 在处理 HADR/SW 复制发送方时,不要求 is_node_internal_connection(),直接调用 check_hba_replication()。check_hba_replication() 仅按 replication 标记做弱匹配,缺少普通 check_hba() 中的远程 trust 禁止等完整校验。因此,非内部网络的 HADR/SW 复制连接可绕过内部连接限制和完整 pg_hba 策略完成认证,进而通过复制协议读取备份与日志数据。
