DescriptionCVE.org

Echo Mirage 3.1 contains a stack buffer overflow vulnerability that allows local attackers to crash the application or execute arbitrary code by supplying an oversized string in the Rules action field. Attackers can create a malicious text file with a crafted payload exceeding buffer boundaries and paste it into the action field through the Rules dialog to trigger the overflow and overwrite the return address.

AnalysisAI

Echo Mirage 3.1 contains a stack buffer overflow vulnerability that allows local attackers to crash the application or execute arbitrary code by supplying an oversized string in the Rules action. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.6), this vulnerability is no authentication required, low attack complexity. Public exploit code available and no vendor patch available.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787), which allows attackers to write data beyond allocated buffer boundaries leading to code execution or crashes. Affected products include: Sourceforge Echo Mirage.

RemediationAI

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Validate write boundaries, use memory-safe languages, enable compiler protections (ASLR, stack canaries).
