DescriptionCVE.org

snappy-java through 1.1.10.8 contains a buffer overflow vulnerability in typed Snappy.uncompress*Array methods that allocate output arrays by dividing uncompressed length by element size but pass the undivided length to native code. Attackers controlling compressed input can cause misaligned length values to write past array bounds with attacker-controlled bytes, corrupting heap memory.

AnalysisAI

Heap memory corruption in snappy-java 1.1.10.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to write attacker-influenced bytes past the bounds of the output array when an application decompresses untrusted compressed data through the typed Snappy.uncompress*Array APIs (such as uncompressIntArray, uncompressFloatArray, or uncompressDoubleArray), which size their result array using the uncompressed length divided by element size while forwarding the undivided length to the native JNI layer. Per the assessed vector (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N, C:N/I:L/A:L) no authentication or user interaction is needed, but exploitation is conditional: the consuming application must expose the typed decompression path to attacker-controlled input, and applications that only use the generic byte[] uncompress path are not exposed. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires that the consuming application decompress attacker-controlled Snappy data specifically through the TYPED array APIs - Snappy.uncompress*Array methods (e.g. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine memory-corruption flaw but a moderate, not top-tier, priority. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch is identified in the available data; no fixed version number appears in the feed, and the referenced upstream item is a tracking issue (https://github.com/xerial/snappy-java/issues/729) rather than a tagged release, so monitor the xerial/snappy-java repository and releases plus the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/snappy-java-through-1.1.10.8-buffer-overflow-via-typed-uncompress-methods) for a patched artifact, and upgrade snappy-java above 1.1.10.8 as soon as a fixed version is published rather than assuming one exists today. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
