Network-accessible API requires only a valid low-privilege session; account takeover yields full C/I impact, and victim lockout constitutes availability loss.

Leantime JSON-RPC API through version 3.9.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the JSON-RPC dispatcher in app/Domain/Api/Controllers/Jsonrpc.php. The dispatcher does not enforce authorization before invoking service-layer methods, allowing an authenticated user to call methods or act on resources outside their intended permissions. For example, the editOwn method accepts a user-supplied user ID without verifying that it belongs to the caller, allowing an attacker to modify another user's account and set a new password, resulting in account takeover. This vulnerability is distinct from CVE-2026-59712 and CVE-2026-15509 because the root cause is the lack of centralized authorization enforcement in the JSON-RPC dispatcher rather than the behavior of an individual exposed method.
AnalysisAI
Missing centralized authorization in Leantime's JSON-RPC API dispatcher (through v3.9.0) enables any authenticated user to invoke service-layer methods against arbitrary resources they do not own, resulting in full account takeover of other users including administrators. The dispatcher in app/Domain/Api/Controllers/Jsonrpc.php routes API calls without an authorization gate, allowing a caller to supply a victim's user ID to the editOwn method and overwrite their password. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to hold a valid authenticated session in the Leantime instance at any privilege level (PR:L per CVSS vector). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 8.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) accurately reflects the severity: network-accessible, low complexity, requiring only a valid low-privilege account. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An authenticated low-privilege Leantime user - such as a guest or project member - sends a crafted JSON-RPC POST request to the /api/jsonrpc endpoint calling the editOwn method with a victim administrator's user ID substituted in the payload. Because the dispatcher invokes the service-layer method without verifying that the supplied user ID matches the session owner, the service sets a new attacker-controlled password for the administrator account. … |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data - patch status is unconfirmed and should be verified directly with the Leantime project. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, review JSON-RPC API access logs (app/Domain/Api/Controllers/Jsonrpc.php) for unauthorized method invocations and audit recent user password changes for anomalies. …
