Network CSRF with no attacker auth (PR:N) but a victim must load malicious content (UI:R); forged requests delete projects and change permissions, giving high C/I/A.

Leantime 3.6.2 contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to perform state-changing actions on behalf of authenticated users by excluding the Laravel VerifyCsrfToken middleware from the global middleware stack in app/Http/Kernel.php. Attackers can craft malicious pages delivered via phishing emails or malicious websites to trigger unauthorized POST, PUT, and DELETE requests that create or delete projects, modify settings, and change permissions as any authenticated user.
AnalysisAI
Cross-site request forgery in Leantime 3.6.2 lets a remote unauthenticated attacker execute state-changing actions in the session of any logged-in user because the Laravel VerifyCsrfToken middleware was commented out of the global middleware stack in HttpKernel.php, leaving every POST/PUT/DELETE endpoint token-free. A victim who is authenticated and visits an attacker-controlled page can be forced to create or delete projects, alter settings, and change permissions. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that (1) the target runs a Leantime version with the VerifyCsrfToken middleware commented out of HttpKernel.php (confirmed for 3.6.2, the default/shipped state), and (2) a victim who is currently authenticated to that Leantime instance is lured to load attacker-controlled content in the same browser - this is the CVSS UI:A / user-interaction requirement and is the primary limiting factor. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H, score 8.6) is internally consistent with a CSRF flaw: network reachable, low complexity, no attacker privileges, but requiring active user interaction (the victim must load a malicious page). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker sends a phishing email or lures a logged-in Leantime user to a malicious web page containing an auto-submitting hidden form (or JSON-RPC fetch) targeting the victim's Leantime instance. Because the server enforces no CSRF token and trusts the session cookie, the browser silently issues an authenticated POST/PUT/DELETE that deletes a project or elevates the attacker's permissions. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade to a Leantime release that incorporates PR #3659 (https://github.com/Leantime/leantime/pull/3659), which re-enables the global VerifyCsrfToken middleware, removes the api/* CSRF exemption, and adds CSRF tokens to the JSON-RPC client and previously untokenized Blade forms; a released patched version was not independently confirmed from the provided data, so verify the exact tagged version against VulnCheck's advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/leantime-csrf-protection-globally-disabled-by-omission-of-laravel-verifycsrftoken-middleware). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
