| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (Medium) accurately reflects the bounded impact profile: network-accessible (AV:N), low complexity (AC:L), no attacker privileges required (PR:N), but mandatory active user interaction (UI:A - the victim must both receive the crafted link and successfully authenticate). Impact is limited to partial confidentiality and integrity (VC:L/VI:L) - no server-side code execution, data exfiltration from the application database, or availability impact. The SC:L/SI:L metrics acknowledge downstream risk on the subsequent system (the attacker's phishing site harvesting credentials). No EPSS data was provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified numerically. The absence from CISA KEV indicates no confirmed broad active exploitation at time of analysis, but the existence of public POC code (VulnCheck, GHSA-wprg-q8m6-jhp9) meaningfully lowers the barrier to exploitation. The real-world risk is higher than the score alone suggests for organizations where Leantime is internet-facing: open redirects from trusted project management domains carry elevated phishing credibility. The CVSS vector and description are fully consistent - no conflicting signals detected. |

Open redirect in Leantime 3.6.2's Login controller lets unauthenticated attackers craft login URLs where the redirectUrl POST parameter bypasses PHP's FILTER_SANITIZE_URL validation - which strips illegal characters but never performs origin-validation - to redirect authenticated users to external attacker-controlled sites. Affected are all deployments of Leantime 3.6.2 with a web-accessible login endpoint, the primary use case being phishing and credential theft by abusing the trusted Leantime domain as a delivery vehicle. No public exploit is confirmed in CISA KEV, but publicly available exploit code exists per VulnCheck and a GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA-wprg-q8m6-jhp9).
RemediationAI
The upstream fix is available via GitHub PR #3658 (https://github.com/Leantime/leantime/pull/3658); organizations running Leantime 3.6.2 should apply the patch from this PR or update to any release that incorporates it - a specifically tagged patched release version is not independently confirmed at time of analysis, so verify the fix commit is included in any upgrade target. As a compensating control prior to patching, configure a WAF or reverse-proxy rule to intercept login POST requests and block redirectUrl parameter values matching external scheme prefixes (https://, http://, //) or backslash-prefixed variants - note this requires careful tuning since the Leantime login form itself submits same-origin absolute URLs in the hidden redirectUrl field, so allowlisting the application's own BASE_URL prefix is necessary to avoid breaking legitimate login flows. If the application does not need to be internet-facing, restricting the login endpoint to internal network access eliminates the social engineering delivery channel entirely with no application-level trade-offs. The VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/leantime-open-redirect-in-login-controller-via-redirecturl-parameter) and GHSA-wprg-q8m6-jhp9 should be monitored for patched release confirmation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Leantime is a PHP-based open-source project management application (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:leantime:leantime:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). The root cause (CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site) lies in app/Domain/Auth/Controllers/Login.php, where the redirectUrl POST parameter was processed with urldecode(filter_var($_POST['redirectUrl'], FILTER_SANITIZE_URL)). PHP's FILTER_SANITIZE_URL is a character-stripping sanitizer - it removes characters illegal in a URL but explicitly does not validate origin or scheme, making it wholly ineffective as an open-redirect guard. The prior resolveSafeRedirect() in app/Domain/Auth/Services/Auth.php also contained a logic inversion: it only blocked external URLs detected by FILTER_VALIDATE_URL, but protocol-relative URLs (e.g., //attacker.com) and backslash-normalized variants (//attacker.com) were not handled, and the entire Login controller bypassed that method in the affected codepath. The fix in PR #3658 consolidates redirect resolution into resolveSafeRedirect(), normalizes backslash tricks via str_replace, strips the application BASE_URL to treat same-origin absolute URLs as relative paths, and explicitly rejects protocol-relative and external absolute URLs.

Leantime 3.6.2 contains an open redirect vulnerability in the Login controller that allows unauthenticated attackers to redirect authenticated users to arbitrary external sites by manipulating the redirectUrl POST parameter. Attackers can craft a malicious login URL with a tampered redirectUrl value that bypasses FILTER_SANITIZE_URL validation to redirect victims to attacker-controlled sites for phishing or credential theft.
