3DescriptionCVE.org
Multiple DrayTek VigorSwitch models contain a buffer overflow vulnerability in the webBackupAction function. The vulnerability is caused by repeated string concatenation of the pathN, valueN, key, and option fields into fixed-size stack buffers without total length checks. A remote attacker can trigger this vulnerability via crafted input, causing a denial of service or potentially executing arbitrary commands. Exploitation requires valid administrative credentials for the device's web management interface.
AnalysisAI
Stack buffer overflow in DrayTek VigorSwitch's webBackupAction function enables authenticated administrators to trigger denial of service or arbitrary code execution by submitting crafted HTTP requests with excessively long pathN, valueN, key, and option parameters. Exploitation is gated behind valid administrative credentials (CVSS PR:H), limiting direct internet exposure but creating meaningful risk via compromised admin accounts or insider threats. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires valid administrative credentials for the DrayTek VigorSwitch web management interface, as explicitly stated in the CVE description and confirmed by the CVSS 4.0 PR:H metric - unauthenticated attackers cannot reach the vulnerable webBackupAction function. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.6 reflects the high potential impact (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) but must be contextualized by the PR:H requirement, which substantially narrows the realistic attack surface. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Apply the firmware update referenced in the DrayTek security advisory at https://www.draytek.com/about/security-advisory/multiple-vulnerabilities-in-vigorswitch-series-august-2026/ - exact patched firmware version numbers were not available in the input data and must be obtained directly from this advisory. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all DrayTek VigorSwitch devices in the environment and immediately audit administrative access logs for anomalous activity; restrict administrative access to DrayTek VigorSwitch to a minimal set of authorized personnel and enforce multi-factor authentication on all admin accounts. …
