AnalysisAIv1 – Jul 21, 2026

Full takeover of Oracle Coherence is possible when an unauthenticated attacker reaches the product over TCP, per Oracle's July 2026 Critical Patch Update. The flaw affects the Core component across Coherence 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0 and 15.1.1.0.0, and Oracle rates it CVSS 9.8 with full confidentiality, integrity and availability loss. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis and it is not listed in CISA KEV, but the 'easily exploitable / unauthenticated' characterization makes it a high-priority patch item.

DescriptionCVE.org

Vulnerability in the Oracle Coherence product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Core). Supported versions that are affected are 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0 and 15.1.1.0.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via TCP to compromise Oracle Coherence. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in takeover of Oracle Coherence. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 9.8 (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0 through 15.1.1.0.0 contain a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability (CVSS 9.8) enabling complete system takeover through network access; no public exploit is identified at time of analysis, but the easily exploitable nature means organizational risk is immediate. No vendor patch is currently available, creating an extended window of vulnerability. All organizations running these versions face potential complete compromise of data confidentiality, integrity, and availability, requiring urgent interim containment measures.

Recommended Action

Within 24 hours: Identify all systems running Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0 and implement firewall rules to restrict inbound TCP access to Coherence nodes from untrusted networks. Within 7 days: Deploy endpoint monitoring and SIEM detection rules for Coherence cluster access attempts; establish baseline traffic profiles; request patch timeline and temporary mitigations from Oracle support. Within 30 days: Upon vendor patch release, execute phased deployment to test environments followed by monitored production rollout of the patched version, prioritizing critical systems.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

Network segmentation restricting Coherence access to known trusted cluster members only; firewall allow-lists limiting inbound connectivity to Coherence default ports (9000 range); disabling unnecessary remote administration and JMX access if operationally feasible; intrusion detection system (IDS) monitoring for exploitation attempts; detailed connection logging for forensic review; incident response runbooks specific to Coherence compromise scenarios.

This Week Schedule remediation this week. Criteria: HIGH severity (CVSS 7.0-8.9). Patch within normal change window.
This Month Plan within 30 days. Criteria: MEDIUM severity (CVSS 4.0-6.9), lower exploitation probability. Include in regular patch cycle.
Monitor Track and reassess. Criteria: LOW severity (CVSS 0.1-3.9), minimal exploitation risk. No immediate action needed.
