Phalcon is a high-performance, full-stack PHP framework. In 5.15.0 and earlier, resolveFilter in phalcon/Mvc/View/Engine/Volt/Compiler.zep builds the join filter by inserting the raw separator and array token values into generated PHP without passing them through expression(). An attacker who can influence Volt template source can place quote-breaking content in a join argument, inject PHP into the compiled cache file, and execute it when Phalcon\Mvc\View\Engine\Volt::render() loads the template. This issue is fixed in version 5.16.0.

AnalysisAI
Compile-time PHP code injection in the Phalcon (cphalcon) PHP framework's Volt template compiler (versions 5.15.0 and earlier) lets an attacker who can influence Volt template source achieve remote code execution. The Volt join filter emits the separator and array arguments as raw, unescaped bytes into the generated PHP, so quote-breaking content escapes the join('…') call and is written into the cached compiled template that is then require()'d at render time. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The concrete prerequisite is that the attacker must be able to influence the source of a Volt template that the application compiles - specifically the arguments passed to the Volt `join` filter - since those separator and array token bytes are emitted into generated PHP without escaping. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score is 9.2 (Critical) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N and full High impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the vulnerable system, reflecting arbitrary PHP execution. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: 5.16.0 - upgrade the cphalcon extension to 5.16.0 or later, which routes the join filter arguments through proper escaping (fix delivered via pull request https://github.com/phalcon/cphalcon/pull/17217 and commit e434061be3b7161930476c1368c868badc71e1bd). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
