Exploitation Conditions

Requires the Presenton Electron desktop build (PRESENTON_ELECTRON=true), which in versions up to 0.9.11-beta runs its internal Next.js/FastAPI HTTP servers with DISABLE_AUTH=true and no per-launch credential; an attacker reaching that server requests paths under /app_data that fall outside the intended asset subdirectories (images, uploads, exports, pptx-to-html, pptx-to-json, fonts, templates) to read configuration, databases, logs, export-task JSON and other private application files. LIMITING FACTORS: only the desktop/Electron deployment mode is affected; the HTTP servers are loopback/internal services, so real reachability likely depends on a co-located local client or a browser-based cross-origin/cross-port path rather than arbitrary internet access; only versions ≤0.9.11-beta are affected (0.9.12-beta scopes the served directories, enforces a .txt-only document reader, and gates access behind a desktop session token/cookie).

Impact

This is a medium-severity information-disclosure flaw (CWE-200) in the Presenton Electron desktop app's authentication middleware, carrying a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.9 with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N and confidentiality-only impact (VC:L). The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' - a moderate, scheduled-remediation priority, not act_now or emergency. Exploit maturity is E:P (Proof-of-Concept): a public PoC reference exists (GitHub issue #973) but it is not verified as working exploit code, and this CVE is NOT listed in CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of active exploitation. No EPSS probability was supplied in the input, so widespread-exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified here. A key conflict: the CVSS vector asserts a network attack vector (AV:N) and no privileges (PR:N), but the affected component is an Electron desktop app whose internal HTTP servers (Next.js + FastAPI) run on loopback with DISABLE_AUTH=true - the fix's handling of cross-port/cross-origin fetches and cookie scoping implies the realistic threat is a local client or a browser-based cross-origin vector rather than an arbitrary remote network attacker. Verify the true reachability (loopback vs. exposed) with the vendor before treating this as internet-remote. Net: a legitimate but not emergency priority - a real confidentiality bug in a niche product, with a PoC that is unverified and no confirmed in-the-wild use.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker able to reach the Presenton desktop app's internal loopback HTTP server - which in affected versions runs without login (DISABLE_AUTH=true) and without the per-launch credential added in the fix - issues requests to the /app_data endpoint for file paths outside the intended asset subdirectories, retrieving configuration, databases, logs, export-task JSON, or other private application files. A public PoC reference exists (GitHub issue #973) but is not verified as working exploit code, so weaponization effort is unconfirmed. The exact trigger (direct request vs. browser cross-origin/DNS-rebinding path) is not fully described in the available sources.

AnalysisAIv1 – Nov 01, 2026

Presenton's Electron desktop build, in versions up to and including 0.9.11-beta, exposes private application files through its internal HTTP services because those services run with authentication disabled and without a per-launch credential, letting a client that can reach them read configuration, database, log and export-task data under /app_data. Only the desktop (PRESENTON_ELECTRON=true) deployment mode is affected, and because the Next.js/FastAPI servers are loopback/internal services, practical reachability likely depends on a co-located local client or a browser-based cross-origin/cross-port path rather than arbitrary internet access; the impact is confidentiality-only and limited. A public PoC reference exists; it is not verified as working exploit code, and there is no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV). Vuln.today priority places this in the current monthly remediation cycle rather than an emergency response.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Presenton to 0.9.12-beta or later, which is the vendor-released patch; the release is published at https://github.com/presenton/presenton/releases/tag/v0.9.12-beta and the change is contained in https://github.com/presenton/presenton/pull/980 and commit https://github.com/presenton/presenton/commit/44c8a61122b21f17642d717b0c4d6f2c54c0f180, with the original report at https://github.com/presenton/presenton/issues/973. That release scopes the served paths under /app_data to asset subdirectories only, restricts the document preview reader to .txt files inside the allowed asset and temp directories, and gates the internal servers behind a per-launch desktop session token and cookie, so configuration, databases, logs and export-task JSON are no longer retrievable. Per the vendor's updated documentation, external REST API and MCP access are not available in the Electron desktop app and its local HTTP servers are internal application services; if upgrading immediately is not possible, keep the desktop build's internal services unreachable from anything other than the application itself for the affected 0.9.11-beta and earlier builds, accepting that only the 0.9.12-beta release implements the credential and path restrictions that completely close the exposure.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is classified CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor) and sits in the Desktop Authentication Middleware of the Presenton Electron application. In affected builds (PRESENTON_ELECTRON=true, up to 0.9.11-beta) the embedded Next.js and FastAPI HTTP servers ran with DISABLE_AUTH=true and no per-launch secret, so the /app_data file-serving path was not restricted to intended asset subdirectories and the document preview reader would resolve paths beyond plain text documents. The upstream fix (commit 44c8a61122b21f17642d717b0c4d6f2c54c0f180, PR 980) shows the remediation approach: a random 32-byte token generated at each launch is stored in an httpOnly, sameSite=strict cookie (presenton_desktop_session) and injected as an x-presenton-desktop-token header only for the two exact application origins, with the cookie stripped from requests to other loopback services and across redirects; /app_data now only serves the images, uploads, exports, pptx-to-html, pptx-to-json, fonts and templates subdirectories, so configuration, databases and logs are never web assets; and the readable-file resolver is limited to .txt files inside the allowed asset/temp directories, rejecting export task JSON and private application files. The provided CPE (cpe:2.3:a:n/a:presenton:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is a wildcard and does not itself constrain the version range, so the vulnerable range is taken from the advisory and the source diff.
