| Exploitation Conditions | Per the patch, the condition is running the Electron desktop build of Presenton, whose local Next.js and FastAPI HTTP servers (bound to loopback) previously operated without authentication - Electron ran without account login (DISABLE_AUTH=true) and supplied no private per-launch credential, so anonymous local clients could reach the internal REST/export/file-read services. Exploitation is LIMITED by the loopback nature of these services: a genuinely remote attacker must either have local access to the host or lure the victim to a malicious web origin that performs cross-port/DNS-rebinding requests, since the endpoints bind to localhost rather than an external interface. The fix mints a random per-launch session token delivered as an httpOnly, sameSite=strict cookie plus an x-presenton-desktop-token header scoped to the two exact app origins, and additionally restricts readable local files to .txt documents within specific asset/temp subdirectories (excluding configuration, databases and logs). The vendor states upgrading to 0.9.12-beta is the resolution. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity, modest-impact issue rather than a drop-everything emergency. The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N) scores 5.5 and describes unauthenticated, low-complexity remote access, but all three impact metrics are Low (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L), so the consequence is limited information disclosure and limited tampering rather than full compromise. Exploit maturity is E:P (Proof-of-Concept): VulDB claims a public exploit exists, but there is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score in the input, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation - the signals point to opportunistic/targeted potential, not a mass-exploitation event. The vuln.today priority label is 'this_month', consistent with a real but non-urgent fix. One signal conflicts with the mechanism: the vector asserts AV:N (network) and PR:N (no privileges), yet the patch (commit 44c8a61) hardens the Electron desktop app's loopback Next.js/FastAPI HTTP servers, which previously ran with DISABLE_AUTH=true and no credential - a localhost service is only 'remote' via a malicious origin or DNS-rebinding, so the AV:N/AC:L rating likely overstates reachability. Verify the exact affected deployment mode (desktop vs. server) with the vendor before treating this as internet-exposed. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | In the vulnerable Electron desktop build, Presenton's local HTTP API endpoints accepted requests without any session credential, so an anonymous local client - or a web page the victim visits that issues cross-origin/rebinding requests to the loopback port - could invoke internal file-read and export endpoints and read document text or other application files. VulDB reports a public exploit (CVSS E:P, Proof-of-Concept), though it is not independently verified as working exploit code. The low attack complexity means that if an attacker can reach the local service, no special timing or grooming is required. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Nov 01, 2026
Presenton 0.9.11-beta and earlier ship an Electron desktop build whose local Next.js and FastAPI HTTP servers accept requests without authentication, allowing anonymous clients that can reach those loopback services to use internal REST, export and local-file-read functionality and to read files the app can access. Exploitation is narrowed by the loopback binding: a genuinely remote attacker needs local access to the host or must induce a victim's browser to issue cross-port or DNS-rebinding requests to localhost, so the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector is AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N yielding low confidentiality, integrity and availability impact. The CVSS 4.0 vector supplied by the CNA rates exploitation maturity as proof-of-concept (E:P) and the CVE text asserts that exploit code has been made public; that claim is not independently verified here, no CISA KEV entry is associated, and the vendor resolves the issue in 0.9.12-beta.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Presenton 0.9.12-beta, which mints a random per-launch session credential, scopes it to the two application origins, and narrows readable local files to .txt documents in designated asset and temp directories; the release is at https://github.com/presenton/presenton/releases/tag/v0.9.12-beta and the full change set is commit 44c8a61122b21f17642d717b0c4d6f2c54c0f180, documented in PR 980 and issue 972. Until the upgrade is deployed, the only compensating measure supported by the evidence is to avoid running the pre-fix Electron desktop build on hosts shared with other users or untrusted local processes, and to avoid using that build to visit untrusted web origins that could issue cross-port or DNS-rebinding requests to the loopback servers; these reduce but do not eliminate exposure, since the unauthenticated local services remain reachable for the lifetime of the running app and only the 0.9.12-beta upgrade closes the gap.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Presenton is an AI presentation-generation application distributed both as a web service and as an Electron desktop app; in desktop mode the app sets PRESENTON_ELECTRON=true and historically ran with DISABLE_AUTH=true, starting two local HTTP servers (a Next.js front end and a FastAPI back end) bound to loopback. The flaw is CWE-287 (improper authentication): those internal servers enforced no account login and supplied no private per-launch credential, so any process or browser context able to send requests to the loopback ports was treated as trusted, and the same trust boundary also permitted reading of local application files through the document preview path. The fixing commit 44c8a61122b21f17642d717b0c4d6f2c54c0f180 (PR 980, issue 972) mints a random 32-byte token at each launch, stores it as an httpOnly, sameSite=strict cookie and injects it as the x-presenton-desktop-token header via Electron's webRequest.onBeforeSendHeaders only for the two exact application origins, stripping the cookie on any non-app or redirected request so it cannot leak to other loopback services; the same commit restricts readable local files to .txt documents inside specific asset and temp subdirectories (images, uploads, exports, pptx-to-html, pptx-to-json, fonts, templates) and explicitly excludes configuration, databases and logs from web-served assets. Because the endpoints bind to localhost rather than an external interface, the access-control gap is only directly reachable from the host itself or through browser-based cross-port / DNS-rebinding techniques, which is why the independent assessment raises attack complexity to AC:H relative to the CNA's AV:N/AC:L rating.

No credential is required (PR:N), but the affected servers are loopback-bound, so reaching them remotely needs cross-origin/DNS-rebinding (AC:H); impact is limited file read and export triggering (C/I/A:L).
