Attacker supplies a file but needs no account (PR:N); exploitation is a local file open requiring a victim click (AV:L, UI:R), yielding full code execution at victim privilege (C/I/A:H).

Newell Brands DYMO ID 1.5.1.71 resolves its plugin Modules directory relative to the process working directory. An attacker could store a job file alongside malicious modules / DLL that sets the process working directory to the job file's folder when a victim clicks on the file, resulting in code execution at the victim's privilege level. Fixed in 1.6.0.

AnalysisAI
Code execution in Newell Brands DYMO ID 1.5.1.71 occurs because the application resolves its plugin Modules directory relative to the process working directory, letting an attacker who places a malicious plugin module or DLL alongside a crafted job file load arbitrary code at the victim's privilege level once that job file is opened. The issue is local and file-delivery based rather than network-reachable, requires explicit victim interaction (opening the crafted job), and grants only the privileges the victim already holds, so it cannot self-propagate; no public exploit code and no CISA KEV entry were identified at time of analysis. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to stage a DYMO job file in the same folder as a malicious plugin module/DLL and have the victim open that specific job file; opening it causes DYMO ID 1.5.1.71 to resolve its plugin Modules directory relative to the process working directory (the job file's folder) and load the planted code. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | CVSS 4.0 base score is 7.0 (High) with vector AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:A, indicating a local, low-complexity attack that nevertheless depends on victim interaction (UI:A) - it is not remotely exploitable and cannot self-propagate. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | The primary fix is to upgrade DYMO ID to 1.6.0 or later, which corrects the plugin directory resolution so modules are no longer loaded from the process working directory; download it via the vendor's release notes and support pages (https://mediaserver.newellrubbermaid.com/industrial/Help/win/en/Content/What's%20New.htm and https://www.dymo.com/support?cfid=user-guide). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
