Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated but non-owner account on the OpenClaw instance (PR:L) that can reach the /export-trajectory endpoint over the network; the attacker then requests a session they do not own and the server fails to enforce owner-only authorization, returning the trajectory bundle. Limiting factors: valid credentials/session are needed (not anonymous), the target session must exist and be referenceable by the attacker, and only instances running versions before 2026.7.1 are affected - upgrading to 2026.7.1 remediates. Impact is confined to disclosure of trajectory data; no write or availability effect.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N) is internally consistent and honest: a network-reachable, low-complexity, low-privilege authorization bypass that leaks confidential data only (no integrity or availability impact), scoring 7.1. My independent 3.1 mapping yields ~6.5 (C:H, I/A:N). The PR:L is the key limiter - the attacker must be an authenticated but non-owner sender, so this is a horizontal authorization/BOLA-style flaw among legitimate users rather than a fully anonymous internet-facing leak. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC are present in the input, so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' Signals are not conflicting but are thin: severity rests entirely on the confidentiality of exported trajectory bundles (prompts, model messages, tool schemas, runtime events, local path metadata), which can be sensitive (secrets in prompts, filesystem layout for later attacks) but is a disclosure-only issue. Net: a real, patchable authorization bug worth fixing, but a moderate priority - not a high-real-risk emergency given authentication is required, deployment footprint is small, and there is no evidence of exploitation.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated OpenClaw user who is not the owner of a target session sends a request to the /export-trajectory endpoint referencing another user's session; because ownership is not enforced, the server returns that session's full trajectory bundle. The attacker harvests prompts, model messages, tool schemas, runtime events, and local path metadata - potentially exposing embedded secrets and host filesystem structure. No public POC or active exploitation is identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 26, 2026

An authorization bypass in the /export-trajectory endpoint of OpenClaw before 2026.7.1 lets a non-owner account retrieve trajectory bundles that should be restricted to the session owner. A remote attacker who holds any valid low-privilege credentials on the instance (PR:L, not anonymous) can request a session they do not own and receive its exported bundle, exposing prompts, model messages, tool schemas, runtime events, and local path metadata; the effect is disclosure only, with no integrity or availability impact (VC:H, VI:N, VA:N). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and the vulnerability is not listed as actively exploited, though the high EPSS-equivalent exposure of a network-reachable, low-complexity bypass makes prompt remediation to 2026.7.1 advisable.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade OpenClaw to 2026.7.1 or later, which enforces owner-only authorization on /export-trajectory; this is the definitive fix and the only remediation that closes the missing object-level check. See the GitHub advisory GHSA-89cw-7452-cfrf and the VulnCheck advisory for confirmation. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, mitigate by restricting network access to the /export-trajectory endpoint (place it behind an authenticating reverse proxy or deny it at the edge), enforcing per-user session ownership at an upstream gateway, and auditing/rotating any credentials or session data that may already have been exposed, since leaked trajectory bundles can contain prompts, tool schemas, and local path metadata. Note that front-end filtering is a compensating control only and does not correct the underlying authorization defect; blocking the endpoint outright will break legitimate export functionality for session owners.

Technical ContextAI · show details

OpenClaw exposes an /export-trajectory endpoint that serializes the full execution trajectory of an agent session, and the server-side authorization check for that endpoint fails to verify that the requesting account is the owner of the referenced session. This is a classic CWE-200 information exposure caused by a missing/incomplete object-level authorization check (an IDOR-style control gap) rather than a memory-safety or injection defect. The CVSS 4.0 vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N describes a network-reachable, low-complexity attack that requires only low privileges and no user interaction, with high confidentiality impact confined to the vulnerable system and no subsequent-system impact. Because trajectory bundles aggregate prompts, model messages, tool schemas, runtime events, and local filesystem path metadata, the leaked data can reveal internal tooling, system prompts, and environment layout that materially aids follow-on attacks, even though the endpoint itself performs no writes.

DescriptionCVE.org

OpenClaw versions before 2026.7.1 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability in the /export-trajectory endpoint that allows non-owner senders to request and receive owner-only trajectory bundles. Attackers can access prompts, model messages, tool schemas, runtime events, and local path metadata from affected sessions by exploiting insufficient authorization checks.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

OpenClaw deployments prior to 2026.7.1 permit any authenticated user with a low-privilege account to retrieve another user's exported session trajectory bundles, exposing conversation prompts, model messages, tool schemas, and internal file-path metadata belonging to other users. Because access requires only a valid low-privilege credential, this weakness turns routine user provisioning into a cross-tenant confidentiality risk, and customers or business units sharing an OpenClaw instance may be affected without any visible sign of compromise. Leadership should care because the disclosed content may contain proprietary prompts, sensitive business context, and infrastructure path details that aid further intrusion.
