DescriptionCVE.org

R 3.4.4 contains a local buffer overflow vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by injecting malicious input into the GUI Preferences language field. Attackers can craft a payload with a 292-byte offset and JMP ESP instruction to execute commands like calc.exe when the payload is pasted into the Language for menus and messages field.

AnalysisAI

R 3.4.4 contains a local buffer overflow vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by injecting malicious input into the GUI Preferences language field. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.6), this vulnerability is no authentication required, low attack complexity. Public exploit code available and no vendor patch available.

Technical ContextAI

This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787), which allows attackers to write data beyond allocated buffer boundaries leading to code execution or crashes. Affected products include: R-Project R.

RemediationAI

No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Validate write boundaries, use memory-safe languages, enable compiler protections (ASLR, stack canaries).
