Impact

Out-of-bounds reads can leak sensitive information from memory, while out-of-bounds writes can corrupt data or enable code execution. With a CVSS score of 8.4 (HIGH), this represents a significant risk. Public exploit code is available, increasing the likelihood of exploitation.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker provides a crafted input that causes the application to read or write beyond buffer boundaries, potentially leaking memory contents or hijacking control flow.

DescriptionCVE.org

JetAudio jetCast Server 2.0 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Log Directory configuration field that allows local attackers to overwrite structured exception handling pointers. Attackers can inject alphanumeric encoded shellcode through the Log Directory field to trigger an SEH exception handler and execute arbitrary code with application privileges.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Organizations using JetAudio jetCast Server 2.0 face notable risk from CVE-2019-25609, a out-of-bounds write vulnerability rated CVSS 8.4. Exploitation could allow attackers to corrupt memory, crash the application, or potentially execute arbitrary code. Proof-of-concept code is publicly available, increasing the risk of exploitation. Organizations should apply vendor updates when available and consider compensating controls in the interim.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Apply vendor patch. If immediate patching is not feasible: (1) Enable ASLR and DEP where available; (2) Implement network segmentation; (3) Monitor for exploitation indicators.

Attack Technique

A buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a memory buffer than it was allocated to hold, causing the excess data to spill into adjacent memory regions.

Memory corruption occurs when a program writes data beyond the boundaries of allocated memory regions or accesses memory in unintended ways, violating the integrity of the process's address space.

Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
