DescriptionCVE.org

Axessh 4.2 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the log file name field that allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying an excessively long filename. Attackers can overflow the buffer at offset 214 bytes to overwrite the instruction pointer and execute shellcode with system privileges.

AnalysisAI

Axessh 4.2 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the log file name field that allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying an excessively long filename.

Technical ContextAI

An out-of-bounds memory access occurs when code reads from or writes to memory locations outside the intended buffer boundaries. This vulnerability is classified as Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787).

RemediationAI

Implement proper bounds checking on all array and buffer accesses. Use memory-safe languages or static analysis tools to detect OOB issues.
