1DescriptionNVD
It was found that glusterfs server is vulnerable to multiple stack based buffer overflows due to functions in server-rpc-fopc.c allocating fixed size buffers using 'alloca(3)'. An authenticated attacker could exploit this by mounting a gluster volume and sending a string longer that the fixed buffer size to cause crash or potential code execution.
AnalysisAI
It was found that glusterfs server is vulnerable to multiple stack based buffer overflows due to functions in server-rpc-fopc.c allocating fixed size buffers using 'alloca(3)'. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.8), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, low attack complexity.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified under CWE-121. Affected products include: Gluster Glusterfs, Redhat Virtualization Host, Redhat Enterprise Linux Server, Debian Debian Linux, Opensuse Leap.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Apply vendor patches when available. Implement network segmentation and monitoring as interim mitigations.
