Exploitation Conditions

No special conditions - remote unauthenticated exploitation against default configurations of Risesoft-y9 Digital-Infrastructure 9.6.5 through 9.6.11 via a single POST to /rest/storeFile. Exploitation requires only network reachability to the fileManager module and does not depend on authentication, user interaction, or non-default settings (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N). What LIMITS real-world impact: achieving full code execution (versus mere file overwrite) depends on the service account's write permissions and on the attacker finding a writable path that is subsequently executed/parsed; the exposure is also bounded by whether the fileManager endpoint is reachable from the attacker's network position rather than internal-only.

Impact

This is a credible high-priority issue rather than a high-CVSS-but-low-risk paper cut. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes the most dangerous possible exposure profile: network-reachable, low-complexity, no authentication, and no user interaction, with HIGH integrity and availability impact (VC:N/VI:H/VA:H) consistent with arbitrary file write rather than data theft. The CWE-22 path traversal leading to arbitrary file write, combined with the RCE tag and the description's 'potentially achieving code execution,' means the realistic worst case is remote code execution on an unauthenticated endpoint. Tempering this: EPSS, CISA KEV, and an explicit POC flag are all ABSENT from the input, so there is no quantitative exploitation-probability signal and no confirmation of active exploitation - do NOT treat this as actively exploited. However, the disclosure includes a VulnCheck advisory, a HackMD technical writeup, and a direct link to the exact vulnerable source lines (Y9FileController.java#L168-L182), which materially lowers the barrier to weaponization even though no packaged exploit is confirmed. Net: prioritize patching on exposed instances; the low-friction attack vector offsets the product's limited deployment footprint.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted POST request to /rest/storeFile with malicious fullPath and fileName parameters that traverse outside the intended upload directory. The attacker overwrites or plants a service-writable file (e.g., a web-executable or configuration/startup file) in a location that leads to code execution in the context of the file-manager service. No public exploit is confirmed, but a vendor advisory and a HackMD technical writeup describe the flaw and reference the exact vulnerable code, substantially easing exploit development.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 13, 2026

Unauthenticated remote attackers can write arbitrary files on servers running Risesoft-y9 Digital-Infrastructure 9.6.5 through 9.6.11 by abusing a path traversal flaw in the fileManager module's storeFile endpoint; a single crafted POST to /rest/storeFile with attacker-controlled fullPath and fileName parameters lets the service account create or overwrite files anywhere it has write permission, which can escalate to code execution if a writable path is later executed or parsed. The assessed vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H (8.8, matching the published CVSS 4.0 score), reflecting high integrity and availability impact with no confidentiality impact, and no KEV listing, so there is no confirmed active exploitation (no public exploit identified at time of analysis), though the presence of a public technical writeup and a VulnCheck advisory makes weaponization plausible. Real-world impact is bounded by the service account's write permissions and by whether the vulnerable fileManager endpoint is reachable from the attacker's network position rather than internal-only; this is a credible high-priority issue rather than a high-CVSS-but-low-risk paper cut.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; the only version-specific code reference supplied (v9.6.11) still contains the vulnerable Y9FileController storeFile logic, so upgrading within the 9.6.5-9.6.11 range is not a fix and administrators should track the upstream repository and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/digital-infrastructure-9.6.5-through-9.6.11-path-traversal-via-filemanager-storefile) plus the public writeup (https://hackmd.io/@1ExmmukzRMWN7B4gQ4W-4Q/digital-infrastructure-filemanager-path-traversal-rw) for a patched release. Until then, the most effective control is to block external access to the unauthenticated POST /rest/storeFile path (and the fileManager module generally) at the reverse proxy, API gateway, or WAF - accepting that legitimate file uploads via that endpoint will break if the block is path-specific, or that file-management functionality is lost entirely if the module is taken offline. Enforce authentication and authorization in front of the fileManager module, since the vulnerable handler performs no caller verification. Restrict the y9 service account so it has write access only to a dedicated upload directory and none to web application directories, configuration files, JSP/template/script locations, or startup paths - this does not remove the traversal bug but removes the arbitrary-write blast radius and the typical path to code execution, at the cost of possibly breaking legitimate workflows that rely on writing outside the storage root. Where the deployment does not need fileManager, disable or undeploy the y9boot-webapp-filemanager application; network-segment the endpoint so it is reachable only from trusted internal clients, and monitor access logs for POST /rest/storeFile requests containing ../ sequences or absolute paths in the fullPath or fileName parameters.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is a classic CWE-22 path traversal in the Java/Spring-based y9 fileManager component of Risesoft-y9 Digital-Infrastructure (module path y9-digitalbase-module/y9-module-filemanager, webapp risenet-y9boot-webapp-filemanager, controller class net.risesoft.y9public.controller.Y9FileController, lines 168-182 in the v9.6.11 source). The storeFile handler accepts client-supplied fullPath and fileName parameters and uses them to construct the destination path without canonicalizing the result or verifying that it remains inside the intended upload/storage directory. Because directory-traversal sequences in those parameters are not neutralized, the destination can resolve outside the storage root, giving the caller an arbitrary-file-write primitive rather than a read primitive. The CVSS vector marks AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N, i.e., unauthenticated exploitation by remote attackers against default configurations, with VC:N/VI:H/VA:H - confidentiality is untouched while integrity and availability are fully impacted (overwriting existing files, including ones the application later loads, can disable functionality or yield code execution depending on where a write lands). The vulnerability class and the unauthenticated request path (POST /rest/storeFile) are corroborated by the referenced NVD sources, including the upstream source file and the VulnCheck advisory URL.

DescriptionCVE.org

Risesoft-y9 Digital-Infrastructure 9.6.5 through 9.6.11 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the fileManager storeFile endpoint that allows unauthenticated attackers to write arbitrary files. Attackers can send crafted fullPath and fileName parameters to POST /rest/storeFile to create or overwrite service-writable files, potentially achieving code execution.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Risesoft-y9 Digital-Infrastructure versions 9.6.5 through 9.6.11 are affected by an unauthenticated remote file-write vulnerability that can lead to code execution, putting the integrity and availability of these systems at risk. With no public exploit identified at time of analysis, leadership should still prioritize urgent interim mitigations to prevent potential service disruption or unauthorized system changes.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Restrict access to the /rest/storeFile endpoint to trusted IPs; disable the fileManager module if not needed; enforce least privilege for the service account; monitor logs for path traversal attempts and unexpected file writes; deploy WAF rules to block malicious requests.
