Exploitation Conditions

No special conditions - remote unauthenticated exploitation against default configurations of the Divi Plus plugin (versions up to and including 2.4.0), because the SVGAnimatorController::index_permission callback returns true unconditionally and no authentication, user interaction, or non-default setting is required. The only prerequisite is that the target WordPress site has Divi Plus ≤2.4.0 installed and active with its REST routes reachable. Limiting factors are minimal: successful file read depends on the web server's filesystem permissions for the PHP process and on PHP allowing the file:// stream wrapper / outbound requests for the wp_remote_get() fallback; exploitation is otherwise unrestricted.

Impact

The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N = 7.5 HIGH) is internally consistent with the description: the vulnerable /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator REST endpoint has a permission callback (SVGAnimatorController::index_permission) that returns true unconditionally, confirming genuine unauthenticated network reach (PR:N, UI:N) and low attack complexity (AC:L) since a single crafted request suffices. The high confidentiality impact (C:H) with no integrity or availability impact (I:N/A:N) matches an arbitrary file read primitive rather than code execution - the description's claim that this 'may make remote code execution possible' is speculative escalation, not demonstrated, and should not be treated as confirmed RCE. No EPSS score was provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified. This is NOT in CISA KEV and no public exploit was referenced, so the status is no public exploit identified at time of analysis - do not treat it as actively exploited. Overall this is a legitimately actionable issue (trivial, unauthenticated, default-config file disclosure that can leak wp-config.php and secrets), not merely a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk item; the main uncertainty is real-world install volume of this specific third-party add-on and the absence of EPSS/exploit telemetry to gauge opportunistic scanning.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted GET/POST request to /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator with the 'svg_image' parameter set to a local path (or file:// URL), and because the permission callback always returns true and sanitization does not restrict filesystem paths, the server reads the target file and returns its raw contents in the JSON 'html' field. The attacker retrieves wp-config.php to harvest database credentials and WordPress salts. No public exploit was referenced, but the low complexity (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N) makes weaponization trivial.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 10, 2026

Unauthenticated arbitrary file read affects the Divi Plus plugin for WordPress through version 2.4.0, letting any remote attacker retrieve files from the web server via the svg_image parameter of the /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator REST endpoint. The endpoint's permission callback returns true unconditionally and the input checks used (sanitize_text_field() and esc_html()) do not block filesystem paths, the file:// stream wrapper, or arbitrary URLs, so the raw contents of the targeted file are returned in the JSON 'html' field; the issue is rated CVSS 3.1 7.5 HIGH (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and no EPSS score or CISA KEV listing was provided, but successful reads of sensitive files such as wp-config.php could enable follow-on remote code execution.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Divi Plus plugin to a version newer than 2.4.0 as documented in the vendor changelog at https://diviplus.io/changelog/ - patch available per vendor advisory, though the exact patched version number is not confirmed in the supplied data; the affected range 'up to and including 2.4.0' indicates a fixed release exists above 2.4.0, so consult the changelog for the precise version before deploying. If immediate upgrade is not possible, the most direct compensating control is to block or restrict access to /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator (for example, a WAF rule matching that path or the svg_image parameter) or to deactivate/remove the Divi Plus plugin until it can be patched - the trade-off is that either approach breaks the legitimate SVG Animator module functionality and WAF rules need tuning to avoid false negatives on URL-encoded variants. As defense in depth, run the PHP process under a minimal-privilege account with an open_basedir restriction so file_get_contents() can reach only expected paths, and disable allow_url_fopen if the site does not need remote fetches - these reduce but do not fully eliminate exposure because local file reads remain possible. Because a successful read can expose wp-config.php database credentials and WordPress authentication salts, rotate those secrets and review web server/PHP logs for requests to the svg-animator endpoint if compromise is suspected; check the Wordfence advisory at https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/2c0bbdf6-afaf-4194-ada2-24d142892c32?source=cve for any updated version guidance.

Technical ContextAI · show details

This is a CWE-22 path traversal / arbitrary file read in the WordPress REST API surface of the commercial Divi Plus plugin (CPE cpe:2.3:a:divi_essential:divi_plus, wildcard version, with the advisory range of all versions up to and including 2.4.0). The plugin registers the route /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator mapped to SVGAnimatorController::index, and its permission callback SVGAnimatorController::index_permission returns true without checking authentication or user capabilities, so unauthenticated network requests reach the handler. The handler takes the user-supplied svg_image parameter and passes it to file_get_contents() after applying sanitize_text_field() and esc_html(), neither of which constrains filesystem paths, the file:// PHP stream wrapper, or remote URLs; if the local read fails it falls back to wp_remote_get(). The raw response body is then returned in the JSON 'html' field of the REST response. The practical constraints are the filesystem permissions of the PHP process account (for example whether it can read wp-config.php or /etc/passwd) and PHP configuration such as open_basedir/allow_url_fopen for the file:// and remote-URL paths; the vulnerability originates in the plugin, not in WordPress core's REST framework.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Divi Plus plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Read in versions up to, and including, 2.4.0 via the 'svg_image' parameter of the /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator REST endpoint. This is due to the endpoint's permission callback (SVGAnimatorController::index_permission) returning true unconditionally combined with insufficient validation of the 'svg_image' input - sanitize_text_field() and esc_html() do not restrict filesystem paths, the file:// stream wrapper, or arbitrary URLs - before it is passed to file_get_contents() (with a wp_remote_get() fallback) and the raw response body is returned in the JSON 'html' field. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to read arbitrary files on the affected site's server which may make remote code execution possible.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Divi Plus plugin versions through 2.4.0 expose WordPress sites to unauthenticated file reads that can disclose sensitive configuration data and potentially lead to full site compromise. No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so any organization using Divi Plus should treat this as an urgent exposure until the plugin is removed, disabled, or virtually patched. Leadership should care because a successful read of wp-config.php can expose database credentials and authentication salts, enabling follow-on attacks that affect customer data, site integrity, and brand trust.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: disable or remove Divi Plus through 2.4.0; block or restrict the /wp-json/elicus/v1/dipl-modules/svg-animator REST endpoint; deploy WAF rules to reject file://, path traversal, and arbitrary URL inputs in the svg_image parameter; enforce authentication or IP allowlisting for REST endpoints where feasible; monitor and alert on access to sensitive files such as wp-config.php; rotate exposed credentials and salts if compromise is suspected.
