| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to have adjacent network access (AV:A) - i.e., a position on the same logical/physical network segment as the Kubernetes cluster running a vulnerable Dell CSI driver (csi-powerflex, csi-powermax, or csi-powerstore) at a version prior to 1.18.0; it is NOT reachable from an arbitrary remote internet host. No authentication and no user interaction are needed (PR:N/UI:N), and the affected CSI functions are vulnerable in their deployed state per the description (no non-default configuration toggle is named). Limiting factors: the adjacency requirement substantially narrows the attacker population, the impact is confined to information disclosure (no integrity or availability loss), and only environments that have actually deployed these three Dell CSI drivers alongside the corresponding Dell storage arrays are affected. |
| Impact | Multiple signals converge on this being a genuine but moderate-priority issue rather than an emergency. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 7.4) describes a low-complexity, unauthenticated attack limited to an adjacent network (not the open internet) with a scope change that yields high confidentiality impact but no integrity or availability impact. CISA's SSVC framework agrees on the muted urgency: Exploitation=none (no observed activity), Automatable=no, and Technical Impact=partial - consistent with information disclosure rather than full compromise. EPSS reinforces this at just 0.30% (21st percentile), and the vulnerability is NOT in CISA KEV and has no known public exploit. The signals are mutually consistent: a real, patchable flaw worth remediating during normal maintenance, but the adjacency requirement (AV:A) and absence of any exploitation evidence argue against treating it as a drop-everything item. No signals conflict. The only caveat is that the description only says 'information disclosure' without specifying what data is exposed, so the real-world blast radius of the C:H rating cannot be fully verified from the provided data. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who has already gained a foothold on the same logical/adjacent network as a Kubernetes cluster running Dell Container Storage Modules (the csi-powerflex, csi-powermax, or csi-powerstore drivers) sends requests to a CSI component endpoint that lacks authentication, retrieving sensitive information without any credentials or user interaction. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, so exploitation would require independent research into the exposed endpoint. |

Missing authentication for critical functions in Dell Container Storage Modules' CSI drivers (csi-powerflex, csi-powermax and csi-powerstore) at versions prior to 1.18.0 allows an unauthenticated attacker with adjacent network access to read sensitive information from the Kubernetes storage layer, with no user interaction required (CVSS 7.4, scope-changed, high confidentiality impact only). Affected environments are limited to those that have actually deployed one of these three Dell CSI drivers alongside the corresponding Dell storage array; the vector is AV:A, so the flaw is not reachable from an arbitrary internet host but only from a host on the same logical or physical network segment as the cluster. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, CISA SSVC records exploitation as none and automatable as no, and EPSS is 0.30% (21st percentile), so this is a moderate-priority hardening item rather than an emergency; a vendor patch is available in 1.18.0.
Earlier versions of this analysis (1)
Missing authentication in Dell Container Storage Modules CSI drivers csi-powerflex, csi-powermax, and csi-powerstore (all versions prior to 1.18.0) allows an unauthenticated attacker who can reach the driver services on an adjacent network segment to invoke critical functions and obtain limited information disclosure, carrying a CVSS base score of 5.4 (AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:L). Because exploitation requires adjacency (CVSS AV:A/PR:N), the attacker must sit on the same logical/L2 network as the vulnerable component - in practice inside the Kubernetes pod/node network or an adjacent VLAN that can reach the CSI services - rather than on the routable internet, so strong segmentation of the storage and cluster control plane substantially lowers real exposure. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV; the vendor has released a fix in Container Storage Modules 1.18.0.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: Dell Container Storage Modules 1.18.0 - upgrade csi-powerflex, csi-powermax and csi-powerstore to 1.18.0 or later following the DSA-2026-448 instructions (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000515771/dsa-2026-448-security-update-for-dell-container-storage-modules-multiple-vulnerabilities), and confirm the driver images actually rolled out in each cluster rather than only the CSM bundle version. No workaround is documented in the advisory, so until upgrades complete the practical control is to shrink the adjacent attack surface: enforce Kubernetes NetworkPolicy (or the equivalent CNI/segmentation control) to deny ingress to CSI driver pods and their service ports from all namespaces and hosts that do not legitimately need them, and place the storage/management network on a dedicated segment so tenant workloads cannot reach the driver endpoints. Trade-off: strict default-deny policies can break sidecars, monitoring scrapers and volume provisioning controllers, so pilot them in a non-production cluster and allowlist the kubelet and CSI sidecar paths first. Where the driver's node-plugin hostNetwork exposure is unavoidable, treat every host on that segment as trusted and prioritize those clusters for the 1.18.0 upgrade; because impact is confidentiality-only, there is no need to rotate array credentials as an emergency measure, but reviewing driver logs for unexpected unauthenticated calls on the storage network is a reasonable detective step while the patch is pending.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Dell Container Storage Modules (CSM) is a suite of Kubernetes add-ons that supplies Container Storage Interface (CSI) drivers so that pods can provision and attach volumes on Dell enterprise storage platforms - PowerFlex (csi-powerflex), PowerMax (csi-powermax) and PowerStore (csi-powerstore). The root cause is CWE-306, Missing Authentication for Critical Function: a function that the CSI driver exposes on the network is reachable and executable without any credential or session check, so the driver's own trust boundary is the only control. Because the CVSS vector is AV:A (adjacent network), that trust boundary is assumed to be the cluster's internal network fabric rather than the public internet, and the PR:N/UI:N components confirm the function requires no login and cannot be gated behind a user prompt. The scope-changed rating (S:C) reflects that the confidentiality impact extends past the vulnerable driver process to the storage/array data it brokers, while the CIA split of C:H/I:N/A:N confines the effect to disclosure - there is no documented path to modify volumes or disrupt availability. The EUVD entry (EUVD-2026-93466) and the CPE cpe:2.3:a:dell:container_storage_modules:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* both treat the whole CSM release train as the affected unit, with the CSI driver modules named as the vulnerable components.

Dell Container Storage Modules, versions prior to 1.18.0, contain(s) a Missing Authentication for Critical Function vulnerability in the csi-powerflex; csi-powermax; csi-powerstore. An unauthenticated attacker with adjacent network access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Information disclosure.
Executive ViewAI
Dell Container Storage Modules' CSI drivers (csi-powerflex, csi-powermax, csi-powerstore) prior to 1.18.0 contain an access-control gap that can expose sensitive information held in the Kubernetes storage layer. Only teams that have deployed one of these three drivers alongside a matching Dell storage array are in scope, and an attacker must already sit on the same network segment as the cluster, which narrows the realistic exposure considerably. Leadership should treat this as a scheduled hardening item for storage and platform teams rather than an incident-level event, while confirming which business services depend on these drivers.
