| Exploitation Conditions | Requires running Dell Container Storage Modules at a version prior to 1.18.0 with the csm-docs component network-reachable by the attacker; exploitation uses credentials hard-coded in that component (CWE-798), so no user interaction and no legitimate authentication are needed per the CVSS vector (PR:N/UI:N). Limiting factors: the attacker must have network path to the affected CSM service and must know the embedded credentials; impact is confined to information disclosure (C:H, I:N, A:N) with no integrity or availability effect, and upgrading to 1.18.0 fully remediates. No active exploitation is reported (SSVC Exploitation: none, not in CISA KEV). |
| Impact | Signals are moderately consistent but point to a prioritize-but-not-emergency posture. The provided CVSS:3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N = 7.5 HIGH) describes a remotely reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw with high confidentiality impact only - matching the Use of Hard-coded Credentials (CWE-798) and Information Disclosure description. CISA SSVC reinforces concern on two axes (Automatable: yes, Technical Impact: total) but explicitly rates Exploitation: none, i.e. no observed exploitation. This aligns with the low EPSS score (0.54%, 44th percentile), the absence of a CISA KEV listing, and no indication of public POC code - so despite a HIGH CVSS this is not currently an actively-exploited priority. CONFLICT TO VERIFY: the free-text Description ends with a stray '9.8' while the structured CVSS Score and vector both yield 7.5; a 9.8 would require I:H/A:H, which contradicts the stated information-disclosure-only impact (I:N/A:N) - treat 7.5 as authoritative and verify the 9.8 against the Dell advisory. The 'Automatable: yes' plus unauthenticated network access means that IF exploit details surface, scaling would be trivial, so patching to 1.18.0 should not be deferred. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote, unauthenticated attacker who learns the hard-coded credentials embedded in the csm-docs component of Dell Container Storage Modules (e.g. from published documentation, source, or reverse engineering) connects to an exposed CSM instance running a version prior to 1.18.0 and uses those static credentials to read sensitive information. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the low attack complexity and lack of required authentication make reliable exploitation straightforward once the credentials are known. |

Hard-coded credentials embedded in the csm-docs component of Dell Container Storage Modules (CSM) before version 1.18.0 expose sensitive information to remote attackers who can reach the affected service over the network. Per the CVSS vector (PR:N/UI:N), no legitimate authentication or user interaction is required once a network path exists, although the attacker must know the embedded credentials, and impact is confined to confidentiality (C:H with I:N/A:N). No public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis (SSVC Exploitation: none, not in CISA KEV); EPSS is low at 0.54% (44th percentile), and Dell has released a fixed version, CSM 1.18.0.

Hard-coded credentials in the csm-docs component of Dell Container Storage Modules (CSM) versions prior to 1.18.0 allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker who obtains the baked-in static secret to access the component and disclose information. The vulnerability is rated 9.8 Critical by the reporter (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H), but our independent assessment narrows the realistic impact to high confidentiality loss only (C:H/I:N/A:N) consistent with the stated information-disclosure outcome; the discrepancy between the claimed full-impact vector and the described effect should be treated cautiously. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis (not listed in CISA KEV).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Dell Container Storage Modules to version 1.18.0 or later, which is the only complete fix, per Dell advisory DSA-2026-448 (https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000515771/dsa-2026-448-security-update-for-dell-container-storage-modules-multiple-vulnerabilities). Because the credentials are baked into the component, they cannot be changed by configuration, so where upgrade cannot be scheduled immediately, restrict reachability instead: apply Kubernetes NetworkPolicies, ingress rules, or firewall ACLs so that the csm-docs service can only be reached from trusted administrative networks (trade-off: documentation endpoints become unreachable for general cluster users and CI tooling); if csm-docs is not operationally required, do not deploy or remove that workload from the CSM install (trade-off: loss of in-cluster documentation, and it must be re-added before a later upgrade); alternatively front the endpoint with an authenticating reverse proxy or service mesh policy (trade-off: adds a component, and it does not change the hard-coded secret, so it only blinds the initial vector). Because the secrets are shared and static, assume any deployment that was reachable may have leaked them: audit access logs for unexpected requests to csm-docs, and rotate any downstream credentials or tokens that the csm-docs component itself uses to talk to storage backends or Kubernetes APIs.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-798, Use of Hard-coded Credentials, in the csm-docs component of Dell Container Storage Modules - a suite of Kubernetes CSI driver add-ons and supporting modules (authorization, replication, observability, resiliency, and documentation) that run as pods inside customer clusters. Hard-coded credentials typically take the form of static API keys, basic-auth strings, or service passwords baked into source, configuration manifests, or container image layers; because these values are identical and immutable across every deployment, they cannot be rotated through configuration, and an attacker who recovers them once (from public repositories, image layers, or a single compromised instance) can reuse them against any other reachable instance. The supplied CPE cpe:2.3:a:dell:container_storage_modules:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the affected package spans all releases below 1.18.0, matching EUVD-2026-93434 ("Container Storage Modules 0 <1.18.0 or later"). CISA's SSVC assessment rates the issue Automatable: yes with Technical Impact: total, meaning exploitation is repeatable at scale if the embedded secret is known, but Exploitation: none indicates no observed campaigns; the assessed vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N bounds the real-world effect to information disclosure only, since no integrity or availability primitives are exposed.

Dell Container Storage Modules, versions prior to 1.18.0, contain(s) an Use of Hard-coded Credentials vulnerability in the csm-docs. An unauthenticated attacker with remote access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Information disclosure.9.8
Executive ViewAI
Dell Container Storage Modules (CSM) deployments running versions prior to 1.18.0 embed static credentials in the csm-docs component, allowing anyone with network reachability to that service to retrieve sensitive information without authenticating. Because container storage platforms often sit adjacent to production data and Kubernetes control planes, a confidentiality exposure here can reveal credentials, configuration details, or internal endpoint information that enables follow-on lateral movement. Leadership should treat this as a known, fixable hygiene gap across the container storage estate rather than an active incident, and prioritize remediation on any internet- or broadly reachable csm-docs endpoints.
