| Impact | This is a genuine, well-substantiated credential-disclosure flaw, not a paper-high score. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (8.3, AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A) captures it well: an unauthenticated attacker (PR:N) exploits over the network, but exploitation requires victim interaction (UI:A - the user must open a crafted link), which is the main brake on severity. The high rating is driven legitimately by VC:H plus subsequent-system impact (SC:H/SI:H): once the victim's browser discloses its Basic Auth credential, Bearer token, or OAuth2 access token to the attacker endpoint, those credentials are replayed to reach protected AAS services with the victim's privileges - so the real-world impact is both disclosure and downstream unauthorized access. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, or public POC is present in the provided data, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or automated mass-exploitation; absence of these signals lowers urgency relative to the raw 8.3. Note the gating condition emphasized by the vendor: this only bites 'in deployments using authentication' - unauthenticated/open BaSyx instances are not exposed to credential theft here. The fix is confirmed (v2-260924, PR #1557), which is the single most actionable signal: upgrade. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 01, 2026
Credential disclosure in Eclipse BaSyx AAS Web UI (v2-241220 through releases before v2-260924) lets an attacker harvest a victim's infrastructure credentials - Basic Authentication, Bearer token, or OAuth2 access token - by inducing an authenticated user to open a crafted Web UI link whose aas or path query parameter resolves to an attacker-controlled origin, causing the shared request handler to attach the Authorization header to that cross-origin request. The stolen credential is valid against the victim's protected AAS services, so the attacker can reuse it with the victim's privileges to read or modify the same Asset Administration Shell data. Exploitation requires a deployment configured with authentication plus user interaction (assessed CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N), no attacker account or privileges are needed, and the flaw is fixed in v2-260924; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and there is no CISA KEV entry.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Eclipse BaSyx AAS Web UI to v2-260924 (vendor-released fix; https://github.com/eclipse-basyx/basyx-aas-web-ui/releases/tag/v2-260924) or later, which introduces the trustedOrigins allowlist enforced before any credentialed fetch. After upgrading, explicitly populate trustedOrigins in aas-web-ui/public/config/basyx-infra.yml (or via the Infrastructure Management UI) with the exact HTTP(S) origins of every additional repository or component that legitimately needs infrastructure credentials - for example https://other-repository.example.com:8443 - since any origin not listed is blocked, and note the upstream guidance that backend requests no longer follow redirects, so final endpoint URLs must be configured directly rather than relied upon via redirects. If immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to enforce a Content-Security-Policy connect-src allowlist on whatever host serves the Web UI so the browser refuses fetches to unapproved origins; its trade-off is that the policy must be kept in sync with every legitimate infrastructure endpoint or those integrations break silently. Reduce blast radius by issuing the infrastructure credentials as least-privilege, preferably short-lived tokens rather than long-lived Basic Authentication or static Bearer secrets, and treat any credential that may have been exposed through a crafted link as compromised - rotate it, review AAS service access logs, and restrict access to the affected Web UI until the upgrade is applied. Advise users not to open shared Web UI links whose aas or path parameters point at unrecognized hosts, since the attack depends on that social-engineering step, and cross-check the Eclipse security coordination record at https://gitlab.eclipse.org/security/cve-assignment/-/work_items/328 for any additional vendor guidance.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The Eclipse BaSyx AAS Web UI is the Vue-based front end for the Eclipse BaSyx Asset Administration Shell (AAS) ecosystem, which implements the IDTA AAS metamodel and API v3.x for industrial digital-twin data. Its client layer (for example composables/Client/AASRepositoryClient.ts) builds repository requests from user-controllable query parameters such as aas and path, and a shared request handler appended the Authorization header derived from the currently selected infrastructure configuration to every outgoing fetch regardless of the destination origin. The root cause is CWE-201 (Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data), effectively an authorization-header forwarding / cross-origin credential leakage problem: because browsers will happily send a manually attached Authorization header (and the OAuth2 token held in UI state) to any URL the page requests, an attacker who controls the link destination receives the credential without violating the same-origin policy - the UI itself makes the request. The upstream fix in PR 1557 adds a trustedOrigins allowlist to the infrastructure configuration (documented in aas-web-ui/public/config/basyx-infra.yml and editable via InfrastructureManagement.vue) with validation via TrustedOriginUtils; relative and same-origin UI requests plus explicitly configured component origins are trusted automatically, requests to any other origin are blocked before fetch, and backend requests no longer follow redirects because the browser cannot reveal the next hop for validation.

DescriptionCVE.org
In Eclipse BaSyx AAS Web UI versions v2-241220 through releases before v2-260924, the shared request handler attached the selected infrastructure's Authorization header to outgoing requests without checking the destination origin. In deployments using authentication, an attacker could induce a user to open a crafted Web UI link whose aas or path query parameter points to an attacker-controlled endpoint. The user's browser would then send the configured Basic Authentication credentials, Bearer token, or an available OAuth2 access token to that endpoint. The attacker could reuse the disclosed credential to access protected AAS services with the victim's privileges. The issue is fixed in v2-260924.
Executive ViewAI
Eclipse BaSyx AAS Web UI versions v2-241220 through releases before v2-260924 contain a credential disclosure flaw that allows an unauthenticated attacker to harvest valid infrastructure credentials by inducing an authenticated user to click a crafted link. Organizations using this UI with authentication enabled are at risk of unauthorized read or modification of Asset Administration Shell data, which could disrupt industrial operations or expose sensitive information. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but leadership should prioritize mitigation because exploitation requires only user interaction and no attacker account, making it a low-barrier social engineering threat.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include network segmentation to limit access to the AAS Web UI, WAF rules to block cross-origin requests from untrusted origins, CSP to restrict outbound connections, user awareness training on phishing, and monitoring for anomalous Authorization header usage.
