| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the victim to authenticate to the College-Management-System while using a session identifier the attacker controls or can predict, because server.php's session_start does not regenerate the session ID at login (CWE-384). The key limiting factor is required user interaction (UI:P/UI:R): the attacker cannot act alone and must trick a victim into logging in under the fixed session. No attacker authentication is needed (PR:N), and the attack is remote over the network, but success is contingent on the victim completing an authenticated login through the attacker-influenced session. |
| Impact | This is a low-priority, high-noise finding. The vendor CVSS 4.0 base score is 2.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N), reflecting a network-reachable but user-interaction-gated session fixation flaw with only limited confidentiality impact and no integrity/availability impact. The E:P (Proof-of-Concept) exploit maturity is consistent with the input signal that POC/exploit code is publicly available - here that 'exploit' is simply the GitHub issue report (#8) describing the flaw, not a weaponized tool. There is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score provided, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation. Exploitation status: publicly available exploit code exists (a public issue write-up), but this must NOT be conflated with active exploitation. The affected software (Mstfakts College-Management-System) is an obscure single-author GitHub project with no meaningful enterprise footprint, further reducing real-world risk. Note a data caveat: the project uses rolling releases, so no affected/fixed version boundaries exist, and the maintainer has not responded to the report - meaning no patch is confirmed available. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a link to the application containing a session identifier they already know (or induces the app to accept a fixed session ID before login), then lures a victim to authenticate through that link. Because server.php's session_start does not regenerate the session ID upon authentication, the victim's now-authenticated session is bound to the attacker-known ID, allowing the attacker to reuse it and impersonate the victim. A public write-up of the issue exists (GitHub issue #8), but no automated weaponized exploit is indicated. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 22, 2026
Session fixation in Mstfakts College-Management-System (Front-end/server.php) allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to plant a session identifier that the application fails to regenerate at login, so the attacker inherits the victim's authenticated session once the victim signs in. Exploitation hinges on user interaction - the victim must complete an authenticated login through the attacker-influenced session - which is the main limiting factor in an otherwise trivially reachable flaw, and the assessed impact is limited to low confidentiality and integrity loss with no availability effect (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N; vendor/NVD base 2.1). Publicly available exploit code exists (referenced from the project's GitHub issue #8), but there is no evidence of active exploitation; this is a low-priority, high-noise finding.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis: the maintainers were notified through GitHub issue #8 (https://github.com/Mstfakts/College-Management-System/issues/8) and have not responded, and the rolling-release model means there is no fixed version to upgrade to, so operators must remediate the code themselves if they run this project. The correct fix is to call session_regenerate_id(true) immediately after successful credential validation in Front-end/server.php (and to destroy/unset the pre-authentication session data at logout) so that a planted identifier cannot survive the login boundary; this is a one-line change but must be tested against the existing login and redirect flow, because regenerating the ID invalidates old cookies and can log out users whose clients cache the session value. Until that change is deployed, treat compensating controls as the primary defense: harden the session cookie with HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Strict/Lax so a third party cannot overwrite the cookie from a sibling origin, accept session identifiers only from the cookie and not from GET/POST parameters, bind the session to a stable client attribute such as user agent plus source address, shorten session lifetime and require re-authentication for sensitive actions, and restrict or WAF-filter access to Front-end/server.php to expected sources; each of these reduces but does not eliminate the fixation window, and the cookie-attribute and binding controls can break legitimate users behind proxies or with rotating client attributes. Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is a classic CWE-384 session fixation in a PHP application. Front-end/server.php calls session_start() without calling session_regenerate_id(true) when a user authenticates, so any attacker-supplied PHPSESSID value that reaches the server before login is retained after the authentication state changes. An attacker can seed that identifier by luring the victim to a URL carrying a chosen session ID parameter, by setting the cookie from a related origin, or through any other means of cookie injection; because the session identifier is not rotated at the privilege boundary, the pre-authentication and post-authentication sessions share the same ID and the attacker can reuse it to ride the victim's authenticated context. The affected artifact is tracked by CPE cpe:2.3:a:mstfakts:college-management-system:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, i.e. the whole project rather than a specific build. The attack is network-reachable (AV:N) and needs no attacker credentials (PR:N), but it is not autonomous: the victim must interact (UI:R/UI:P) by logging in while holding the attacker's session cookie. The upstream maintainers shipped no fixed release because the project uses rolling releases, and the reported issue at github.com/Mstfakts/College-Management-System/issues/8 had not received a vendor response at the time of analysis.
