Exploitation Conditions

The vulnerable feature is the admin 'quick question' page (dist/lib/UI/pages/admin/quick_question.html), reachable and injectable by unauthenticated users in DEFAULT installations - the fix confirms this by newly adding an [if-mm super] superuser restriction that was previously absent. Injected Perl is evaluated because attacker input flowed into a reparsed [calc] block; the fix sets reparse=0 and entity-filters the CGI yes/no parameters. The KEY limiting factor on impact: injected code executes inside Interchange's Safe compartment, which restricts available Perl opcodes/operations; UNRESTRICTED server-side RCE requires the non-default AllowGlobal directive to be enabled for the accessed catalog. Thus default installs are exploitable for constrained (sandboxed) code execution, while full-impact RCE additionally requires AllowGlobal=1.

Impact

The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H = 9.8) and SSVC (Automatable: yes, Technical Impact: total) both point to a serious, network-reachable, unauthenticated code-injection flaw - normally a top-priority patch. However, key signals moderate this: SSVC Exploitation status is 'none', there is no CISA KEV listing, no EPSS score is provided in the input, and no public POC is referenced (only the vendor advisory and the fix commit), so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis'. Critically, the description itself contradicts the 9.8 impact rating: injected Perl runs inside a restrictive Safe compartment by default, and full unconstrained RCE only occurs when the NON-DEFAULT AllowGlobal directive is enabled for the catalog. So the headline 9.8 is a worst-case (AllowGlobal-enabled) figure; default-configuration impact is materially lower because the Safe sandbox limits opcodes/system access. Net: this is a genuine unauthenticated injection worth patching promptly, but the real-world 'total impact' claim is configuration-dependent and should be verified against the vendor advisory rather than taken at face value.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted request to the Interchange admin 'quick question' feature (quick_question.html), supplying attacker-controlled input (e.g. the yes/no CGI parameters) that is reparsed and evaluated as server-side Perl via the [calc] tag. On a default catalog the code runs within the Safe compartment with constrained impact; if the catalog has the non-default AllowGlobal directive set, the same injection yields full server-side RCE. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, though the fix commit publicly reveals the vulnerable code path.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 18, 2026

Unauthenticated remote code execution affects the Interchange e-commerce platform (the interchange/interchange project) through its admin 'quick question' page, where attacker-supplied yes/no parameters flow into a reparsed [calc] template block and injected Perl is evaluated server-side. The flaw is reachable without authentication in default installations, as confirmed by the upstream fix adding a previously absent [if-mm super] superuser gate, and SSVC rates it Automatable with total technical impact; however, injected code executes inside Interchange's Safe compartment, so unrestricted, full-impact code execution additionally requires the non-default AllowGlobal directive to be enabled on the catalog being accessed. The vendor rates this 9.8 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) while our independent assessment rates it AC:H given the sandbox constraint; no public exploit code and no confirmed active exploitation were identified at time of analysis, and a vendor patch/advisory is available.

RemediationAI

Primary fix: apply the upstream vendor patch for the quick question page, delivered via commit 65b6ea9d3761dd1fd2071c962819562afa335e4e - vendor advisory https://www.interchangecommerce.org/i/dev/news?mv_arg=00071 states a patch is available, but since the reference points to a source commit rather than a tagged release, treat this as 'upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed' and verify that your deployed build actually contains the [calc reparse=0] change, the $Tag->filter('entities', ...) wrapping of the yes/no CGI values, and the new [if-mm super] guard. Confirm after upgrading that quick_question.html contains all three modifications, since a partial or reverted template reintroduces the flaw. If patching cannot be done immediately, the highest-value compensating control is to stop exposing the admin interface: restrict /admin/ (and specifically the quick question page) at the web server or reverse-proxy layer to trusted management networks or authenticated superusers via ACL/basic auth, accepting the operational cost that administrators must use a VPN or bastion to reach it. Removing or renaming dist/lib/UI/pages/admin/quick_question.html disables the feature outright at the cost of losing that admin convenience. Audit every catalog's configuration and ensure the non-default AllowGlobal directive is not enabled - with AllowGlobal off, injected Perl remains inside Interchange's Safe compartment and impact is constrained; enabling it to 'make things work' markedly raises the blast radius and should be treated as a security regression. Network filtering/WAF rules that strip or reject Perl-signature tokens and template metacharacters in requests to admin endpoints offer only defense in depth and are bypassable, and log monitoring for anomalous POSTs to the quick question page should be considered a detection measure, not a fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Interchange is a long-standing Perl-based e-commerce and catalog application whose storefront and admin UI are driven by a tag/template language ([calc], [if-mm], [filter], and similar directives) evaluated at request time; the admin pages live under dist/lib/UI/pages/admin/. CVE-2026-75031 is a CWE-94 (Improper Control of Generation of Code / code injection) defect in dist/lib/UI/pages/admin/quick_question.html: the CGI parameters yes and no were interpolated into a [calc] block whose output was then reparsed, meaning crafted input was treated as Perl source and executed by the server. The upstream commit 65b6ea9d3761dd1fd2071c962819562afa335e4e addresses the root cause in three ways: it changes the block to [calc reparse=0] so evaluated output is no longer reinterpreted as code, it wraps the CGI values with $Tag->filter('entities', ...) to neutralize entity/metacharacter injection, and it adds an [if-mm super] guard so the page can only be rendered by a superuser - evidence that the page was previously reachable without such a check. Execution context matters for impact: Interchange runs evaluated template Perl inside a Safe compartment that restricts permitted opcodes and operations, so in a default configuration the injected code is sandboxed/constrained. Only when the non-default AllowGlobal directive is configured for the catalog being accessed does the code run with global, unrestricted scope, which is what turns this into full-impact RCE; organizations that have enabled AllowGlobal should treat the flaw as severe. Note the discrepancy between the vendor CVSS vector (AC:L) and our independent assessment (AC:H, reflecting the Safe-compartment prerequisite for full impact).

DescriptionCVE.org

In the interchange/interchange project, a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability was found in the “quick question” admin feature. In default installations arbitrary Perl code can be injected and executed server-side by unauthenticated users. The Perl code normally runs within a Safe container which limits the scope of what it can do, unless the non-default AllowGlobal directive is configured for the catalog being accessed.CTOR]

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

A critical unauthenticated remote code execution flaw (CVE-2026-75031) affects the Interchange e-commerce platform, allowing an attacker with network access to reach the administrative 'quick question' page and execute injected Perl code on the server without logging in. Because Interchange typically fronts storefronts that process customer orders and payment data, a successful compromise could expose customer records, allow tampering with transactions, and disrupt online sales. The vendor has released a fix, and no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, giving leadership a narrow window to remediate before public tooling emerges.

Attack Technique

Code Injection CRITICAL

Code injection occurs when an application accepts user input and passes it directly into a language interpreter or evaluator without proper sanitization.

Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
