DescriptionNVD

As part of Cisco's ongoing commitment to proactive security and product quality, the Cisco Secure Adaptive Security Appliance Software, Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center Software engineering team has conducted a comprehensive internal security review. This review resulted in a software hardening release that addresses multiple internally discovered vulnerabilities.

The vulnerabilities tracked by CVE-2026-20333 are related to incorrect comparison conditions that are grouped under the Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) Pillar CWE-697.

AnalysisAI

A hardening release for Cisco Secure Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software, Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software, and Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software addresses a class of internally discovered defects grouped under CVE-2026-20333, described as incorrect comparison conditions (CWE-697) that can lead to high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact (CVSS 8.8). Affected deployments span ASA 9.16 through 9.24, FTD 7.0 through 10.0.0, and FMC 7.0 through 10.0.1, and exploitation requires network reachability to the affected management/data plane plus valid low-privilege credentials (CVSS vector PR:L), so this is not an unauthenticated remote attack. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires network reachability to the management/data plane of Cisco Secure ASA, FTD, or FMC software AND valid low-privilege credentials (PR:L) - this is not remotely exploitable by an unauthenticated attacker. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment Vendor CVSS is 8.8 (High) via CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H - network-reachable, low complexity, but requiring some level of authentication (PR:L) and asserting full C:H/I:H/A:H impact without scope change. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Patch available per vendor advisory: Cisco published this as a software hardening release, and the authoritative remediation is to upgrade each affected platform to the fixed build within its train as listed in the advisory at https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-hardening-asaftdfmc-uvpPROhN - affected trains are ASA 9.16 through 9.24, FTD 7.0 through 10.0.0, and FMC 7.0 through 10.0.1, and exact fixed versions should be taken from that advisory rather than inferred. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory every Cisco Secure Firewall asset and map it to the affected ranges - ASA 9.16 through 9.24, FTD 7.0 through 10.0.0, and FMC 7.0 through 10.0.1 - and confirm whether the vendor has published fixed builds under advisory cisco-sa-hardening-asaftdfmc-uvpPROhN, since the input indicates no vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; simultaneously restrict management-plane reachability on these devices to dedicated administrative network segments and jump hosts, disable unused management interfaces, and enforce multi-factor authentication for all administrative and low-privilege accounts, since the CVSS vector (PR:L) establishes that authenticated access is a prerequisite. …
