3DescriptionNVD
A vulnerability in the certification authentication feature of Internet Key Exchange version 2 (IKEv2) for Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause an affected device to reload unexpectedly.
This vulnerability is due to a logic error during the certificate authentication phase of the IKEv2 connection setup. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by attempting to establish an IKEv2 VPN connection with a crafted certificate. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the IKEv2 process to crash, causing a denial of service (DoS) condition.
AnalysisAI
Unauthenticated remote attackers can crash the IKEv2 process on Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD software configured for certificate-based IKEv2 authentication, causing an unexpected device reload and a denial-of-service condition. Exploitation requires no credentials and no user interaction; the only prerequisite is a specific configuration - IKEv2 VPN with certificate authentication enabled and the IKEv2 listener (typically UDP/500 and UDP/4500) reachable from the attacker's network, which is common on internet-facing VPN concentrators. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitable only when the affected ASA/FTD device is configured for IKEv2 VPN with certificate-based authentication (the certification authentication feature of IKEv2); the attacker sends a crafted certificate during connection setup. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine and serious availability risk despite being confidentiality/integrity-neutral. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released fixed version is specified in the provided data, so treat the Cisco advisory (https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-asaftd-ikev2cert-dos-uWyc2xtv) as the authoritative source for fixed ASA and FTD releases and upgrade each affected device to the recommended build for its train. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; within 24 hours, identify all Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD devices configured for certificate-based IKEv2 authentication and assess exposure; if IKEv2 certificate authentication is not essential, disable it, and restrict access to IKEv2 ports (UDP/500 and UDP/4500) to trusted IP addresses. …
