Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 15, 2026
Path traversal in the Weights & Biases (wandb) Python client before 0.29.0 lets a malicious or compromised W&B backend push crafted file names through the File.download path, writing attacker-controlled files outside the intended download directory. Publicly available exploit code exists, and because arbitrary file writes can target shell startup files or Python import paths, successful abuse can escalate to code execution on the victim host. No CISA KEV listing has been reported, so exploitation appears to be proof-of-concept driven rather than confirmed widespread activity.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Weights & Biases wandb before 0.29.0 fails to validate the file name from server responses in the File.download function, allowing path traversal attacks. Attackers controlling the backend can supply file names with directory traversal sequences to write files outside the intended download directory, potentially enabling code execution through modification of shell startup files or Python import paths.
