DescriptionCVE.org

Incorrect Authorization vulnerability in Apache Syncope.

Delegated administration security checks performed by Reconciliation service's pull and push, being incomplete, could accept calls by administrator not provided with adequate entitlements.

This issue affects Apache Syncope: from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, from 4.0.0-M0 Through 4.0.7, from 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2.

Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.0.8 / 4.1.3, which fix this issue.

AnalysisAI

Broken delegated-administration authorization in Apache Syncope's Reconciliation service lets an authenticated administrator invoke pull and push operations without holding the required entitlements, because the entitlement checks on those endpoints are incomplete. The flaw affects Syncope 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2, and is fixed in 4.0.8 and 4.1.3. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires an authenticated Syncope administrator account that is subject to delegated administration but lacks the specific entitlements for the targeted objects/realms - the vulnerability is that the Reconciliation service's pull and push operations do not fully enforce those entitlements. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The published CVSS 9.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N with C:H/I:H/A:H) overstates real-world risk: the description explicitly frames the actor as an 'administrator not provided with adequate entitlements,' which means an authenticated admin account is a precondition, so PR:N is almost certainly wrong and PR:L is more accurate - this is a horizontal/vertical privilege escalation among administrators, not an unauthenticated compromise. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Apache Syncope 4.0.8 or 4.1.3, which complete the delegated-administration entitlement checks on the Reconciliation service's pull and push operations, per the Apache advisory at https://lists.apache.org/thread/prv0k3mvorzhngdw405sgb87ckw105gz. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
