DescriptionCVE.org

A flaw was found in gdk-pixbuf. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause a heap out-of-bounds read by providing a specially crafted Apple Icon Image (.icns) file. The uncompress() function, which handles RLE-encoded ICNS icon data, fails to validate the source buffer's boundaries during decompression. This can lead to a denial of service, where the application crashes, or to information disclosure, potentially revealing sensitive data from adjacent memory.

AnalysisAI

Heap out-of-bounds read in gdk-pixbuf's ICNS decompression routine allows an attacker to crash GNOME applications or disclose adjacent heap memory by supplying a crafted Apple Icon Image (.icns) file. The uncompress() function, which handles RLE-encoded ICNS data, lacks bounds validation on the source buffer during decompression. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that gdk-pixbuf process a specially crafted .icns file. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The provided CVSS 6.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H) correctly places this as a file-triggered, user-interaction-dependent vulnerability rather than a network-reachable flaw. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No specific patched version is identified in the available data. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
