DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, an unauthenticated user could trick an authenticated user into running arbitrary Search Processing Language (SPL) commands using the permissions of the authenticated user through a crafted Splunk Web link. The SPL commands could access all relevant data. The vulnerability does not affect Splunk Enterprise 10.4 versions and above. The vulnerability is possible because Splunk Web substitutes form token values supplied through the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) into SPL searches without neutralizing them. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the user by tricking them into opening the crafted link. The unauthenticated user should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see Token reference (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/create-dashboards-and-reports/simple-xml-dashboards/10.2/simple-xml-reference/token-reference) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

SPL injection in Splunk Enterprise below versions 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14 enables an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary Search Processing Language commands under the privileges of any authenticated Splunk user by luring that user into clicking a specially crafted Splunk Web URL. The root cause is unsanitized substitution of URL-supplied form token values directly into SPL searches, effectively turning the victim's browser session into a proxy for the attacker's queries. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attack requires two concrete conditions to be satisfied simultaneously: first, the target must be running Splunk Web (the browser-based interface) on an unpatched version within the 9.4, 10.0, or 10.2 branches; second, an authenticated Splunk user must be socially engineered into clicking the crafted URL while their session is active. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:L yields a score of 6.4 (Medium), which accurately reflects the attack's meaningful friction: AC:H and UI:R jointly require the attacker to successfully phish an authenticated Splunk user, a non-trivial social engineering dependency that substantially limits opportunistic exploitation. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker identifies a target organization's Splunk deployment and crafts a Splunk Web URL containing malicious SPL tokens in the query string - for example, injecting a search that exfiltrates indexed credentials or PII to an external lookup. The attacker then sends this URL to a Splunk analyst or SOC operator via a phishing email or message, posing as an internal alert or dashboard share. …
Remediation The primary fix is to upgrade Splunk Enterprise to a patched release: 9.4.14 for the 9.4 branch, 10.0.9 for the 10.0 branch, or 10.2.6 for the 10.2 branch, per the vendor advisory at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
