| Exploitation Conditions | The attack requires only unauthenticated network access to the SiYuan instance - no credentials, no session, and no user interaction are needed, consistent with PR:N/UI:N in the CVSS vector. The enumeration component (tier fingerprinting) is effective against any SiYuan deployment with the publishing feature active and network-reachable. The more severe cookie-issuance component is specifically triggered when a target document's access tier is set to hidden or forbidden, because those tiers store an empty string as their password by design; an attacker's empty-password submission inadvertently matches and satisfies the credential check. Exploitation is bounded by the attacker's ability to enumerate or guess valid document identifiers - SiYuan document IDs are not inherently public. Deployments where no documents are assigned to hidden or forbidden tiers are not exposed to the cookie-issuance path, though document enumeration via tier fingerprinting still applies. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 score of 6.9 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:N/SA:N) reflects a network-accessible, zero-friction, unauthenticated attack with limited confidentiality impact - an accurate baseline for the enumeration component, but it may understate the unauthorized cookie issuance aspect, which constitutes a functional authorization bypass rather than purely passive disclosure. There is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS data was provided; no public proof-of-concept code has been identified, suggesting this has not been widely weaponized. SiYuan is a self-hosted niche tool with a relatively small production footprint, which constrains the blast radius of opportunistic scanning. That said, any organization - even a mid-sized municipal IT team in kielce deploying SiYuan internally - that relies on the hidden or forbidden tiers as an actual access control boundary faces a material risk: the cookie-issuance path is not merely informational; it enables content access. Deployments that use SiYuan solely for public documentation with no restricted tiers face limited practical risk, while those actively using hidden/forbidden tiers for confidential material should treat remediation as urgent regardless of the moderate CVSS score. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 14, 2026
Information disclosure and authentication bypass in SiYuan before v3.7.4 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to enumerate the existence and access tier of any document by exploiting observable behavioral differences in the /api/filetree/authFilePublishAccess endpoint. Beyond mere enumeration, the flaw carries a more severe secondary impact: because hidden and forbidden document tiers are stored with an empty password, submitting an empty-password request against those documents causes the server to issue a valid publish-auth cookie, granting the anonymous caller direct access to content the document owner explicitly restricted. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade SiYuan to v3.7.4 or later, which resolves this vulnerability per the vendor's GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-4pjg-x8qj-33j5 (https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-4pjg-x8qj-33j5). If an immediate upgrade is not feasible, restrict network-level access to the SiYuan instance so that the /api/filetree/authFilePublishAccess endpoint is not reachable by untrusted clients - for example, by placing the service behind a reverse proxy configured with IP allowlisting or mandatory upstream authentication; note that this approach will prevent legitimate external access to published documents and requires careful scoping. Until patched, administrators should avoid relying on the hidden or forbidden document tiers as a meaningful access control boundary, as anonymous callers can obtain valid publish-auth cookies for documents in those tiers without any credentials.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SiYuan is a self-hosted personal knowledge management application (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:siyuan-note:siyuan:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). Its document publishing subsystem allows documents to be assigned one of several access tiers: public, password-protected, hidden, or forbidden. The API endpoint /api/filetree/authFilePublishAccess handles publish-access authentication but is registered with only the permissive CheckAuth middleware, which allows anonymous callers. The root cause is CWE-203 (Observable Discrepancy): the endpoint omits a uniform failure response code, so its outcome leaks through two observable side-channels - the text of the response body message and the conditional presence of a Set-Cookie header - which vary in distinct, distinguishable patterns across each access tier. A structural design flaw compounds this: the hidden and forbidden tiers internally store an empty string as their password, so an attacker submitting an empty password inadvertently satisfies the credential check and receives a legitimately signed publish-auth cookie for those documents.

1DescriptionCVE.org
SiYuan before v3.7.4 contains an information disclosure vulnerability in the /api/filetree/authFilePublishAccess endpoint, which is registered with CheckAuth only and is reachable anonymously. The endpoint never sets a failure code, so its outcome is signalled entirely by the response message and by the presence of a Set-Cookie header, and these signals differ across access tiers. By submitting requests with an empty password for a candidate document identifier, an anonymous attacker can distinguish whether a document is public/nonexistent, password-protected, or exists at the hidden or forbidden tier, thereby confirming the existence of documents they are not permitted to access. Because hidden and forbidden entries store an empty password, such requests also cause the server to issue a publish-auth cookie for forbidden documents.
