DescriptionNVD

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 Langflow versions up to 1.9.2 (commit 94981c443d4918517b9e8163d70fc598dc33a32d) contain a code injection vulnerability in the Policies component's ToolGuard integration that bypasses the allow_custom_components=false security control. The vulnerability exists because the validation mechanism only checks the main component source code in node_template["code"]["value"] but fails to validate dynamic CodeInput fields that store generated ToolGuard Python files. Attackers can embed malicious Python code in these unvalidated dynamic fields, which are persisted in Flow.data and later executed server-side when a guarded tool is invoked through the ToolGuard runtime. This allows authenticated users with flow creation privileges to achieve arbitrary Python code execution on the backend despite custom component restrictions. The vulnerability can be escalated through cross-tenant flow manipulation via the agentic MCP update_flow_component_field tool, which accepts attacker-controlled user_id parameters, enabling attackers to inject malicious code into victim users' flows. When combined with publicly accessible flows and specific misconfigurations (AUTO_LOGIN=true, NEW_USER_IS_ACTIVE=true), the attack can be conducted with reduced authentication requirements.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary Python code execution in IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.10.0 (Langflow versions up to 1.9.2) allows authenticated users with flow-creation privileges to bypass the allow_custom_components=false control via the Policies component's ToolGuard integration. Because validation only inspects the main component code and ignores dynamic CodeInput fields, attackers persist malicious Python in a flow that runs server-side when a guarded tool executes. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated account with flow-creation privileges (CVSS PR:L) and a deployment that uses the Policies component's ToolGuard integration where allow_custom_components=false is relied upon as the security boundary. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H, base 9.9) reflects network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation requiring only low privileges, with a scope change justified by cross-tenant flow manipulation and full confidentiality/integrity/availability impact from backend RCE - a genuinely high-priority issue rather than an inflated score. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated user with flow-creation rights builds a flow using the Policies/ToolGuard component and embeds malicious Python not in the main component code but in a dynamic CodeInput field that escapes validation. When a guarded tool in that flow is later invoked, the ToolGuard runtime executes the attacker's code server-side, yielding arbitrary command execution on the backend; using the MCP update_flow_component_field tool with a spoofed user_id, the attacker can plant the payload into a victim tenant's flow. …
Remediation Patch available per vendor advisory - apply the fixed Langflow OSS release referenced in IBM's advisory at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7278920 (an exact patched version number is not stated in the provided data and should be taken directly from that advisory rather than assumed). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Langflow deployments (production and non-production) to identify which instances run versions 1.0.0 through 1.9.2, and document all users and service accounts holding flow-creation privileges. …
