Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a locally-installed, low-privileged application already executing on the macOS host (AV:L, PR:L); it cannot be triggered remotely or over a network, and no user interaction beyond running the malicious app is needed (UI:N). The attacker must therefore first achieve local code execution via a malicious or compromised app. Impact is limited to disclosure of sensitive network connection information (C:H, I:N, A:N) and does not allow modification or denial of service. Limiting factors: default macOS app sandboxing and code-signing/notarization reduce the likelihood of an arbitrary malicious app running, and the flaw is fixed in macOS Golden Gate 27, Sequoia 15.8, and Tahoe 26.7.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-urgency issue. The CVSS vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 5.5) describes a locally-exploitable information-disclosure flaw: an already-installed, low-privileged app can read sensitive network connection information with high confidentiality impact but no integrity or availability impact. All secondary signals align with low real-world priority: EPSS is 0.16% (5th percentile), there is no CISA KEV listing, no public exploit is referenced, and the CISA SSVC decision framework rates Exploitation as 'none', Automatable as 'no', and Technical Impact as only 'partial'. The signals are consistent rather than conflicting - a locally-scoped confidentiality leak that is not weaponizable and requires code already running on the host. The one caveat is that exploitation presupposes attacker-controlled code execution on the device (a malicious or compromised app), so this is best treated as a defense-in-depth/privilege-escalation-adjacent fix rather than a frontline remote threat. No key CVSS data is missing or self-contradictory.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A user installs a seemingly benign macOS app (e.g. from outside the App Store or a trojanized download) that runs with normal user privileges. Due to improper state management, the app queries OS network state and obtains sensitive network connection information it should not be able to see, which it can exfiltrate. No public proof-of-concept exploit is referenced in the available data, and local execution (AV:L) with low privileges (PR:L) is required.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 20, 2026

macOS can expose sensitive network connection information to a locally installed, low-privileged app because of improper state management in affected releases. The flaw affects macOS versions before Sequoia 15.8, Tahoe 26.7, and Golden Gate 27, and Apple has released fixes. No public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified; EPSS is 0.16% (5th percentile), indicating low predicted exploitation risk.

RemediationAI

Apply the vendor fixes by upgrading to macOS Sequoia 15.8, macOS Tahoe 26.7, or macOS Golden Gate 27; Apple's advisories are at https://support.apple.com/en-us/149035, https://support.apple.com/en-us/149042, and https://support.apple.com/en-us/149043. No feature-disable workaround is documented for this state-management flaw, so organizations that cannot immediately upgrade should reduce exposure by enforcing Gatekeeper, code-signing, and app-sandbox requirements, restricting users from installing unreviewed applications, and monitoring for unexpected local apps that access network connection information. The trade-off is that tighter app-install controls can block legitimate unsigned internal tools, so allowlisting should be maintained for approved software.

Technical ContextAI · show details

This is a CWE-200 exposure-of-sensitive-information issue in Apple macOS. The CVSS vector AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N shows that exploitation requires code already running locally with low privileges, with no user interaction beyond running the malicious or compromised app, and that impact is confidentiality-only: sensitive network connection details may be read, but integrity and availability are not affected. The CPE entry cpe:2.3:a:apple:macos:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* is a broad wildcard for macOS rather than a version-specific identifier, so the practical affected ranges come from EUVD: macOS before 15.8, before 26.7, and before 27. Apple attributes the fix to improved state management, addressing how network connection state is isolated or tracked so that a local app cannot access information it should not see. Default macOS app sandboxing, code signing, and notarization reduce the likelihood that an arbitrary malicious app can run and exploit the flaw, but they do not eliminate the need to patch.
