The XML parsers within multiple WSO2 products accept user-supplied XML data without properly configuring to prevent the resolution of external entities. This omission allows malicious actors to craft XML payloads that exploit the parser's behavior, leading to the inclusion of external resources.
By leveraging this vulnerability, an attacker can read confidential files from the file system and access limited HTTP resources reachable by the product. Additionally, the vulnerability can be exploited to perform denial of service attacks by exhausting server resources through recursive entity expansion or fetching large external resources.
AnalysisAI
The XML parsers within multiple WSO2 products accept user-supplied XML data without properly configuring to prevent the resolution of external entities. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.5), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, no authentication required, low attack complexity. This XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability could allow attackers to read arbitrary files or perform SSRF through XML processing.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as XML External Entity (XXE) (CWE-611), which allows attackers to read arbitrary files or perform SSRF through XML processing. Affected products include: Wso2 Wso2 Api Manager, Wso2 Wso2 Identity Server, Wso2 Wso2 Open Banking Am, Wso2 Wso2 Open Banking Iam, Wso2 Wso2 Identity Server As Key Manager.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Disable external entity processing in XML parsers, use JSON instead of XML where possible.
